My son calls him Darth Mater...there has to be something I can do with that.
My guess is that the kids either took a bit of time to get it, or they laughed because the adults were laughing (I lean toward the latter only because you say they're pre-k).
Preschool is usually 3-4 year olds. They have a tough time following plot-heavy shows. If there's a lot of talky-talking...
If you're doing the show live, don't forget to stomp your foot on the stage (or kick a box if its not loud enough) about when your puppet would hit the floor. Man..noisy falling is amazingly wonderful.
I'm with MrHogg, however with a less intellectual approach.
How I do it:
Write for myself--I happen to be a grown-up. If I find something funny, chances are other grown-ups might as well. If grown-ups are laughing, children will laugh because they're still learning, socially, when things are...

But really, I'm not sure after living in Arizona for 7 years if I know what a real winter looks like anymore. Or if I want to know.
I have an etsy shop & I really like it. Listing costs are (for 5 photos & a4 month listing) for 20 cents plus 3.5% of the sale once its sold). There are ups and downs to Etsy, but its just a matter of where you feel most comfortable.
There's a tiny part of me inside that dies every time I see something adorable. I think this is robbing any potentially future children I have of their own adorablility (I often refer to this as an ovary rupturing). Indeed, another ovary just GONE.

That was good for me to see, I think. I've never known what other slams around the country look like. Looks like you guys probably have more profound beautiful things to look at while here in Arizona our sole attempt is to get drunk...
