The comic book form was a hoot. And if you're working with other puppeteers, I'm sure you guys will be great. Heck, if you're posting here, there's more of a sign that you actually care about the art of puppetry & not just the gimmick of puppets.
next time I'm in New York I'll come by & see you...
No, I don't think it was...I mean, this was definitely guys behind a table flipped on its side and some commercially made puppets... I don't think felt does that.
Josh & Tamra were also there...but I didn't get to see them. A few weeks later they moved to Los Angeles & played our theater along...
wasn't Jim Henson like amazingly tall & lanky?
When we do anything with a stage, its always done with a stage that we can stand up behind, with a scrim between our faces & the puppets & our arms out in front of us. If you look at it from the side, it looks like the lower-case letter h.
if it...
We do longform with puppets out here. Used to do it for years with Furgeson at the festival, but now its just a few of us with Die Puppet Die. It's good fun.
Are you doing it a-la Ave Q. style of performing, or are you guys using a stage with a traditional playboard/scrim?
Hey Mike, did you happen to do this at DCM at all?
(Some guys were doing something with sunny brand puppets from behind a table & I only caught a glimpse)
That's me!
Hi mike!
Things are going along pretty okay. A bump or two here, but all is good.
I actually came back to NY last summer for DCM, but didn't have time to do a whole lot of..um...anything besides improv.
What brings you to the puppetry forums?
Oh! And then I could put it in one of those awful plastic packages that's 18x the size of the object that you cut yourself on if you attempt to get it out! This could be fun.
oh the bags are a great idea. When my grandmother would get her hair done (back in the day when you'd go to the beauty parlor once a week & get your hair set), she'd sleep with her head wrapped in a pillowcase so it wouldn't get messed up.
So here's what I'm thinking....imagine this like a...
I'm wondering if I should ship them in curlers & trust the people on the receiving end to fluff it up the right way...Maybe with detailed instructions. If you got a puppet in the mail, would you be like "dude, I didn't want to have to do the hair"?
are you just wanting to see how they manipulate before you get the pattern? because they're quite the dream to operate. the back of the mouth is covered in foam (polyurethane is what i use) but I cover it in a lightweight stretchy cotton to keep it from turning to dust so quickly from being in...
Ok...just because I'm a ninny. There's a new law going into effect in the US on Feb 10th of '09 that anything created for sale with the intended audience being age 12 or under (may be under 12...I'd have to re-read it without a glass of wine & a belly full of Christmas) will have to be tested by...
I've never really shipped puppets that needed to stay pristine before. They usually are just furry monsters, etc.
The ones I'm doing now have wigs with hairstyles that need to not get messed up in the shipping process. Clothing that I'd rather not have shift, etc.
Any suggestions?
I machine sew my mouth....yeah I'm not a big fan of whipstitching. if anything a backstitch or a ladder stitch makes me happier. But whipstitch is really fun to say.
Well they were actually hoping that I could get 5 puppets done in a matter of 2 weeks. I said that was impossible, so they said 4 weeks, I said that's nearly impossible but that I'd try. I ended up pushing back that deadline by another week & a half. So I'm still scrambling to get these done...
