No, I usually borrow one from our theater. Our theater has that one and others similar. At home I toss them into rubbermaid boxes where they suffer sniffing each other's puppet-holes.
If you search froogle.com for "metal puppet stand" you can probably find one. They're a bit on the expensive side. Otherwise you can get a big dowel & drill holes into it & throw other dowels onto the side.
So I know Cathy Murillo (CraftyChica.com) is currently picketing Ellen until she accepts glitter. Apparently it's gotten them a bit of press. I think its a great idea!
If only puppetry was lucrative enough that I could fly out on a whim and join in.
Creaturework,
Awesome shirt! Is polyfil on there twice? There are probably two kinds I don't know about. (or its the tequila doing it's job)
I'm currently on vacation..true honest-to-goodness vacation & I found faux fur in my stuff. *sigh*
anything that can be manipulated can be considered a puppet. As a kid watching labrynth I recognized that the creepy wall of hands was a form of amazing puppetry. even edgar bergen had just his hand with a wig & lipstick on it..maybe a shawl.

doesn't Andrew have a tutorial for arm rods floating around somewhere? I remember liking what I saw (however I never did try it).
I *did* just get a dremel for my birthday, so....HOORAY!

That one is $21.00, but it's corded & you'd need a mixer of sorts.
The mics I looked at were all at least $150 each.
We do scarf marionettes with our students. I don't think that's what Phillip Huber was talking about, I think it's a book about full-on marionettes but made with cloth.
I, however, love scarf marionettes. I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) that they were first developed by Albrecht Roser for a...
Our theater recently had Phillip Huber out to visit a few weeks ago. He recommended a book to me about cloth marionettes (since I'm so entirely intimidated by carving..). If I pick it up & do something with it (the book that is), I'll let you know.
I also know that using polymer is okay...
A good friend of mine (HS Theater teacher & fellow puppeteer) did the show with his students about 3 years ago & we built the puppets. He not only looked to the kids interested in puppetry, but also the ones interested in dance.
My advice is to limber up before your audition and make sure you...
