Well, no that it's not quite right. I am not a lawyer, but the idea that you can't create derivative works is pretty well esthablished in copyright law (Picasso may be a bad example because his work may now be in the public domain, I am not sure). There is no fair use provision for "collectors"...
MPG is good too (as long as you use a fairly standard codec) and it's important to remember that Quicktime isn't really a file format as much as it is a method for playing back a whole variety of formats.
Just avoid .wmv is what I am saying, or make all the videos available as both .wmv and .mov.
I would strongly suggest using Quicktime rather than WMV. Everytime I post links to .wmv files in my blog I always get emails from people who can't watch them, especially Mac users.
They do, although they're not always on top of it. Most of these get taken down before they close or they never get their minimum price. I think a lot of these get sold privately to collectors. When I was building puppets I'd get approached a minimum of 2 or 3 times a month by people who wanted...
...which is exactly what's not supposed to be happening here.
I know there is a great diversity of views on the subject of Muppet replicas and a lot of disagreement within the community about selling them, but irregardless of what I, you or anyone else thinks MC's stated policy is that the site...
Not to sound harsh, but the justification "I am posting this only because I am in need of money," is up there with "I am only robbing this store because I am in need of money."
In addition to breaking copyright laws (which is ultimately up to Disney to enforce) you're also breaking the MC site...
I concur with Limb's airbrushing advice, you might also want to consider building your puppet out of L200 foam which often comes in white (myself I have never been a fan of dying foam, but that is just me). I personally have not found Scupt-or-Coat ideal for film/television use, the results of...
I think the "is it open source" is besides the point. I was simply making a point about how the discussion started ("splitting a hair" as I said) but what's really important is how it ends and that it ends with a collaborative, community puppetry project.
I'm back in Canada now for the holidays, but I will be in Mexico again in January. There's limited stuff available where I have been staying. The big American stores like Wal-Mart and HEB seem to only carry Mexicanized versions of the American merchandise, but I'm planning a trip to the Plaza...
Actually, it does.
Maybe I'm splitting a hair here, but the original concept behind this - which has changed a bit as discussion about it has proceeded - was to do something in puppetry that's modelled on the open source software movement (hence the name "Open Source Puppetry Project". So, for...
I have to agree, although I'm not really involved in this, I was the one who first pitched the idea way back when and the point was it was to be "open source" i.e. free for anyone to participate in. I think the offer of a rebate or special extras for someone using a project puppet pattern is...
Everybody knows the Star Wars Cantina band! Here's a link to a few pics - http://www.starwars.com/episode-iv/bts/article/f20030502/img/modalnodes_bg.jpg
I don't have access to the photo of the Chewie I made earlier this year, but when I do I'll post it.
I did a Chewbacca awhile back using a similar shape (not the Punto pattern though) and it worked out very well.
What about the Cantina band guys? That could work, with a few modifications.
You know who's pretty cool - Puppet Artists. I have never dealt with them, but I like their work because it's looks a little different than your typical Muppety stuff and they're glove puppets which is different too.
Well part of what I want to do with Machin-X is do more in-depth stuff, but I will probably only be posting a few times a week rather than daily, like I do with PuppetVision. There will be a lot of "project blogging" as I work on the two digital puppetry systems I am doing.
If you're looking...
Hi everyone,
I've started a new blog about digital puppetry called Machin-X. It's a mixture of news and thoughts about digital puppetry and also a sort of project blog for the two pieces of digital puppetry software I've been working on.
Check it out and please come back often!
