Not exactly about food, but curious.

Here in New Jersey the big supermarket chain is ShopRite. There’s also a few ALDI stores.
Kings is where the rich people shop, and even a few Acme still exist.

But do any of you have stores where the shopping carts are chained together, and to get one you insert a quarter, and you get a cart. When you’re done shopping, you chain your cart back up, and you get your quarter back.
I imagine this policy is so people don’t leave their carts in the parking lot, and/or they don’t have to pay someone to round up the carts.

ShopRite is a decent company to work for. I have a friend who was there for ten years. The only drawback is it’s unionized. If you’re full time, it’s good. But part time, your union dues eat up a lot of your check.

Aldi is the only store I've encountered with that quarter per buggy policy . . . and, it's also the only store I've encountered where the cashiers can actually sit at their registers rather than stand (granted, they pretty much sit on bar stools, but the fact is they get to sit rather than stand).

Some of our region stores down here have these special locks on the buggy wheels where if you attempt to leave the store with them, it somehow triggers the lock, which makes the buggy pretty much useless because you can't roll it with locked wheels.

And yes, down here in the south, we call shopping carts buggies.

The cashiers at ALDI do get to sit. But when they’re not ringing up customers, they’re restocking shelves, rolling out pallets, and other tasks.

We also have a store up here called Trader Joe’s (they’re spread out pretty wide). They sell some exotic cheeses, pastries, and things you can’t find anywhere else.
One of their most popular items is a $2 bottle of wine called Two Buck Chuck.

When I visited my sister in Nashville years ago, we went to Kroger’s. Thet have a lot of national brands, but I liked finding things we don’t have back home. Down South you can find Vernor’s ginger ale (it comes from Michigan) that doesn’t exist back home. Gems like that.

Yep, Kroger is a really popular chain down here, but I have to say, they've really gone downhill in recent years: they've phased out a lot of specific products, not just national brands, but even some of their own in-store off-brand products as well - it's getting to a point where you often have to go to a big box store like Walmart of somewhere just to find certain products you're looking for, because it's very likely Kroger doesn't even carry it anymore. Most recently, they closed out certain flavors of Propel water that I enjoy like lemon and orange.

Literally had one of the best chocolate chip vanilla fudge sundaes in a cup from a Cumberland’s.

Like I’m not even kidding, it was THAT good. I would so buy it again!

Alright, so I gave the Cheetos Mac and cheese pasta a try…..

Honestly….. very disappointed. Felt like I was eating chewy pasta noodles in cheese milk. 😕

I did also buy the flamin’ hot and the jalapeño. Probably won’t make a difference minus flavor, but I still bought them and am going to eat them.
