Tomahawk: Well, since someone who will remain nameless exited the arena, and you happen to have an avatar of an unreal person...don't you find it odd that whenever someone holds the minority position on the forum, they are told they are trying to "force" something, but those that hold the popular opinion are just "expressing" themselves? Often employing terms such as "rat's butt?"

Lemme get your opinion...check this:

"You are someone who has an opinion like everyone else, but you are trying to force YOUR opinion down our throats."

Gosh. I thought I was talking about Moore, and answering her comment with a comment of my own. I don't complain-I can take it. Folks can put Moore down all they want, for all I care. I answer their comments. That's just me :embarrassed:

What has this got to do with Canada's universal health care? Which isn't "free," but we tax ourselves more up here for the common good.

Sounds like she's angry. But I never insulted her, or slandered her.

I might say that all of our opinions can be walked away from, mine included. The only people having something shoved down their throats right now are the Iraqis.

But...she's angry...I guess my days here are numbered :frown:

Well, some people feel the invasion of Iraq was just that. What I find disturbing is that a nation allegedly "at war" is celebrating and having fun. The major cities of the country you are "at war" with are being bombed and shot at, while your major cities aren't suffering a single bullet, and one of them, a few days ago, was full of millionaires gving each other trophies, and then having parties afterward.

Pretty easy going for a country "at war."

Um, have you not seen "A League of Their Own"? Where women took up professional baseball to keep up the country's morale? So that Americans would have some sort of entertainment and leisure to engage in to take their minds off the war? You must do something to take your mind off of it, or else it will consume your mind and just create dire consequences.

That's what happens in war-time---sure, we feel terrible for potential life lost (I know it affects me deeply emotionally), but we stand together as a nation to show the terrible people against us that we will NOT live in fear or depression, and that we are proud of our country's rich traditions.

Keeping up the country's morale is something that happens in war-time, and helps pull people together. Nicoke Kidman hinted at that in her tasteful remarks, and she was right.

No, it was the perfect timing to say what he said. Even better that it was broadcasted in Iraq. And for that reason alone deserves a big standing ovation.
Oh, yeah, I'm sure that'll help the soldier's morales about our country and what they're putting their lives on the line for, and I'm sure it helps that the enemy saw one of our own proclaim that. Gotta love that confidence boost for 'em.

This would be a pretty boring place if we all thought the same things. Debate is good. Sharing ideas is good. Given the current climate, we all need to be especially considerate of one another and choose our words carefully and respectfully. There’s more leeway when talking about public figures than forum members, but we should still be respectful. We can disagree with another’s actions or words without turning it into a personal attack. If anyone has a problem with another forum member, or with a particular post, that they cannot work out on their own (or are not comfortable taking on on their own) please report it to a moderator. Free speech is not only a right, it is a responsibility.

Janice & Mokey's Man:

You're bringing a Madonna movie into this. Err... ok....

Still, I admit your point. Have your Oscars...boost morale...fine.

But you're not at war. You're invading.

Osama Bin Laden took responsibility for 9/11. You bombed Afghanistan trying to find him, and I don't blame you. But you didn't find him, and Saddam didn't take credit for 9/11. You found a videotape of Osama laughing about it and telling people to wait for the second plane. Blowing up your WTC was an act of war from Osama. So go kill Osama.

The Iraqi military hasn't fired one bullet in your streets, or dropped one bomb. Hitler, for example, invaded countries, like The Netherlands. That was a war.

There are Iraqi civillians without electricity and water right now, because their country is being blown up by the omnipotent American military. Where is the Iraqi supply line running through your town? Where is the Iraqi republican guard, advancing to Washington? Where?

Although I don't blame Moore for speaking out, and I wished he'd done it faster and walked away, and although it was also rude...well...

I find the US-led military action in Iraq to be pretty darn rude. So does Moore, and not everybody in the Oscar audience booed. Like Moore said, the Pope is against it, too. The Pope speaks many languages, and traveled to Canada this past summer. He has a scope for the world, and how this invasion will unbalance it.

"Oh, yeah, I'm sure that'll help the soldier's morales about our country and what they're putting their lives on the line for, and I'm sure it helps that the enemy saw one of our own proclaim that. Gotta love that confidence boost for 'em."

There are other countries and other soldiers. Your TV studios are not being blown up; Iraq's are.

So, for all the "God bless our troops" on American television, is it so bad to have one of your own citizens say "shame on you," as a counterpoint?

"God bless us, EVERY one"

It's not "a Madonna movie", I was makin' a valid point. Just sounds like you tried to demean it.

And I'm not about to even get into sides on the war in this thread---that's why I avoid the war threads here anyway.

Hopefully everyone'll finally have peace soon...

Well, it'd be a little difficult for me to take that without a grain of salt, since my very next sentence was: "Still, I admit your point."

I ADMITTED your point. Jeez, we all know Madonna+Movies=crap

The movie you should have used was "Hollywood Canteen" from 1944.

True, it's just that that's the first thing you read in the post, and it's pretty irrelevant to say since I was tryin' to make a different point. :smirk:

If you don't like Madonna movies (and I've only really seen one), at least ya can say she didn't have the lead role in that one! :stick_out_tongue:

Not bad.

Contrary to what some people might think, it seems there's a chance for adults to disagree here without the Thought () Police banning members from the forum.

Sidcrowe,

Why are you so angry in all your posts? It carries over into ALL your posts and makes reading the threads not so fun. I got out of one thread of opinions because everyone was so angry there when all it was is a basis of rebutting opinions.

Nobody wants you banned, except you it seems. You keep saying it over and over again. If you don't want to be here, then don't come in, but for the love of clovers just lighten up and have some fun.

Nobody hates you, though there may have been some differences of opinions, but opinions aren't worth friendships or the time to continue making angry posts.

We're all friends here, so stop acting like the world is out to get you or that we all hate you and want you off the board, it's simply not true.

Let's just have fun and be friends again.
