    Puppet Pattern Sale

Their Sock Puppet Pattern is very affordable ($20 or so isn't it?). I have a Guide to Puppet Building Resources that includes links and information you might find helpful too. You can also search the forum using "Puppet Pattern" and you'll find old threads with links to free patterns.

    Foam Question For The Pros

I think what I've generally used is 35 ppi too and I think that is what's most commonly available. The holes are still somewhat large at that size and the texture can be a little rough. The tradeoff between the number of pores per inch is that the higher the ppi number the less the foam weighs...

    New Superman Returns trailer out

The new Superman Returns trailer is out and it looks fantastic. Check it out - http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/supermanreturns/trailer2/large.html

    New Category?

I think most people enjoy the ebay threads. I don't browse ebay myself, so it's interesting to see what goes up for sale there. What some forums do is dedicate a thread to something like ebay auctions, sticky it and only allow auctions to be posted there. That might be a solution, but it...

    Photos for Jerry Juhl tribute

Hi everyone, I was contacted by UNIMA-USA because they are putting together some kind of printed tribute for Jerry Juhl (he was serving on the UNIMA board when he died) and they are looking for photos of Jerry to include in it. I wondered if anyone here who attended either Muppetfest or one...

    New Category?

I don't personally think that's necessary. Too many sub-categories makes it more time-consuming to browse a forum. If someone is looking for specific information they can use the search function. It might be an idea to expand the number of forum pages beyond 4 or 5.

    Trademarking Puppets

There is registered copyright in the United States and Canada and that's something worth looking in to. Do we really need to start that up here too?

    The eBay Muppet Knock-off Thread

    This is becoming simply childish.

    How to price your puppets

It would be interesting to see if that's true and the % of people searching for puppets on ebay who use the term. When I have time over the next day or two I think I'm going to check the keyword stats for "professional puppet".

    Trademarking Puppets

Under Canadian law your puppets would be protected by copyright, not trademark, since they are artistic works. You can trademark the names simply by using the "TM" symbol after the name or formally registering them so you can use the "R" registered trademark symbol. There's a basic overview of...

This is very cute, I like him alot. Does any part of his body move inside the ball?

    How to price your puppets

Just a note to everyone downloading the spreadsheet, there are a couple of minor errors in two of the cells that I didn't catch before they were uploaded. If you've downloaded the spreadsheet, make sure that the formula in cell C14 reads "=SUM(C3:C13)*0.1" and the formula in cell C16 reads...

    Contract Up For Bid

That's a good point, any builder who warrants the puppet for five years is probably being unrealistic. Even puppets very carefully taken care of (properly stored in a dry place, in plastic, away from sun, etc.) are going to sustain damage. Especially if they are in regular use. You should...

    New Mouse Puppet

Very cute mouse Sean! Nate (or anybody else out there who likes those animal head puppets) you might want to check out Disembodied Animal Head Theatre.

    Contract Up For Bid

That makes much more sense. You probably want to make it very clear that people are submitting pictures, not puppets. On a fairly big contract like this, it's pretty standard to request mock-ups, maquettes, etc. I just did some consulting for a show that's being developed in the U.S. and I...

    Contract Up For Bid

Purely out of curiosity, I am reading this correctly in understanding that the people who apply for this don't get paid for building prototypes and they have to surrender ownership of their work?

    Puppeteers in Texas

This is sort of tentative still, but I'm supposed to be up in San Antonio the weekend of May 6th, most likely with two other puppeteers (they occasionally lurk here, but don't post). I was thinking it would be neat to organize a mini-MC dinner if anyone is interested. Any thoughts?

    How to price your puppets

If you're referring to the figures in the spreadsheet, they're just more or less made up to serve as an example. The pricing method is the same no matter what kind of puppets you're selling, but it's more realevent to people building or selling puppets full-time (or those that want to) because...

Where can I get this Material AIR-X?

Chino, if you go to Mountain Equipment Co-Op in Toronto they sell sheets of yellow and blue closed cell foam in the camping section. You'll have to buy a MEC membership for $10-15 to shop there, but you could easily do something like the Optimus Prime head that stuff.
