If you can find plastic eggs like the ones included in the fake food they sell in toy stores, they make really good eyes too. I've found these often in $1 stores.
I might be completely wrong about this, but I don't think anyone has ever discouraged anyone because they charged less for their work. Several people have mentioned that people who charge less for puppets are probably underselling themselves and their work, but I don't think that's meant to be...
Bill Watterson doesn't believe in merchandising. Throughout his career he really pushed the idea of comics as art and in the few interviews he's done he's said that putting the characters on mugs and T-shirts cheapens them in his eyes.
One of his famous quotes about merchandising was ""I am a...
You can buy animatronics kits that will sync movement using MIDI. That sounds like it would be the way to go for you. I'm not very familiar with a lot of the kits on the market, but try doing some Googling for "animatronic MIDI kit" and you should find some useful links.
I've got a few...
Following up on the list above, here's six more things to think about:
What's your objective? Puppeteers must understand what their character is doing, or trying to do, in any given scene. They must also understand the through line that connects the beats in the story together and pushes their...

I don't think that you can use fabric whitener to make regular fabrics fluoresce. It might make them give off a slightly purple glow with the amount varying depending on the fabric, but it probably won't work very well.
Has anyone actually tried this and had success?
Chino, if you go to the World's Biggest Bookstore downtown they carry Puppetry International, but it's not always in stock because UNIMA-USA only publishes it two or three times a year. The best way to get it is probably just to get a UNIMA-USA membership and subscribe to it that way it's mailed...
In both cases I believe that the actual fur hasn't been available for years. Also, many of the furs you see used for television puppets are custom-made for the production, which is a very expensive process.
I have seen close aproximations of both in recent years. It's really hit and miss. You...
Thanks for the suggestions Dwo. What I'm doing with storyboarding and rough animation is assembling it in to a storyreel. Eventually I'll be recording temporary audio tracks of the all dialogue, sound effects, etc. and then when things get to the production stage the actual shots will be cut in...
I've seen pictures of this and it's been discussed on the forum here before. Basically, there's a rod for moving the leg and a simple cable control that allows it to bend I believe.
I recently posted this in my blog and wanted to add it here...12 helpful questions puppeteers should ask themselves before performing a puppet in a scene:
Is the puppet doing what the director wants?
Is the puppet doing only one thing at a time?
Is the puppet putting over the story point in...
