I've been a Muppet fan since long before you were born. I think Master Replicas' Kermit is BETTER than some of the overstuffed posers that Henson Co. used. I've always hated those. And that Fozzie poser from Muppets Take Manhattan is horrible. I can't stand to look at it.
So, I take issue...
So, are you saying we shouldn't own Picasso prints or lithographs, or recordings of songs, because those are both copies of original artistic works.
If the owner of the property makes or authorizes to be made copies of said property, well, that's commerce. That's one of the ways that artists...
Terry came on the board himself to tell us that this was his first prototype, which I saw at Comic-Con. At that time, his mouth closed perfectly, overbite and all.
As I said in another thread, if he looks thrashed now, or his mouth won't close, it's because he's been beaten up. I'm not...
I didn't mean to imply that product quality was easier with an inexpensive action figure. The point I was trying to make was that as the dollar amount for the item goes down, so does one's expectations of accuracy.
As for how they could have assured better eye placement, how about a template...
Once again, I am happy that so many of you are thrilled with him.
But...
Doing modifications on a $20 Palisades toy is one thing, but having to do modifications on a $300 "replica" is just unacceptable.
Many of you on here are artists, puppeteers and puppet builders and possess the...
Those protos get manhandled quite a bit at these conventions. I even saw MR employees being pretty rough with the bear when he was brand new at Comic Con last year. Nobody on this board who owned one would mistreat them the way they get mistreated at a convention. I think that may be what has...
Just to be clear, I never put down anyone that bought it. If you go back through my messages, you'll see that I said I'm glad that people are happy with him and I hope MR sells a whole bunch of them.
:p
I agree 100% about the 80% and 95% in your message... and everything else in the paragraph above.
I said it before. This Gonzo is an expensive toy. Granted, it's the nicest and best Muppet toy ever made... even better than the Ideal Kermit... but it is in no way an "authentic replica". It...
You are completely making my argument. We shouldn't be settling for anything less than 95%. And instead of "it looked pretty good", we should be opening the box and thinking, "this looks amazing, incredible, unbelievable, stupendous, magnificent, beyond words, takes my breath away, etc. etc."...
Thanks for the info and you're right. I thought maybe you were having his nose and mouth rebuilt out of foam. I'll still pass on this one.
I'm not sure I really understand the attitude of most of the folks on here. "Oh, well, it's the best we'll ever get." "Oh, well, it's good enough."...
Who is doing your alteration? I might even consider getting one if someone could "fix" him.
If you'd rather not share with the group, you could PM me.
Thanks!
:p
The sad truth is, nothing lasts forever, unless you store it under museum conditions, and even then, things like the original Star Spangled Banner flag, the Statue of Liberty and the Mona Lisa have to be restored every so often.
I have a Jerry Mahoney ventriloquist doll from the 50's. I...
I have to agree again. They shouldn't be catering to the lowest common denominator here. They should be catering to the high end collector.
If I buy a ceramic Disney figurine and I drop it, they're not going to do anything about it. If someone is careless enough to rip off Gonzo's nose...
I agree, too. When the rumor first reached me that these were being made... and the rumor originally was that they would be puppets... I was told they'd be in the $1200 price range, which actually didn't seem unreasonable to me. I didn't know where I was going to find the money, but I would...
Unfortunately, I was being given a tour of the Muppet Workshop and photos were forbidden. I also promptly got in toruble and got my host in trouble for allowing me to handle the puppet. Still, it was very cool. He's not easy to put on. Quite a lot going on inside, due to his construction...
