But it's also up to the people at MR to know what's wrong with the China prototypes when they come back. Obviously, no one tried to close Animal's mouth or noticed the white lining under his eyebrows or realized that they had eyelids that moved, but couldn't be posed. I hope they do a better...
I completely agree with you here. I used a blow dryer on his hair when I first took him out of the box, then posed him with Kermit (I'll be posting a pic later this week) and left them like that since he arrived. His hair totally settled on its own. There's not one stray feather flying up...
Here is a picture of the original Rowlf. On this puppet, his lower jaw almost slightly juts out more than his upper lip. But I think he would look right if they were both even.
:p
Me, too. I can't think of one thing I would change. He's 100 times better than the poser they used for the "Muppets Take Manhattan" photos... and those were built by the original Henson workshop.
:p
But you're missing the point. There's nothing wrong with prototype photos as long as they are CLOSE to the final product, as Kermit and Animal were. Unless Gonzo still has a sock nose, the final product may be very different from the current proto photo. (Hey! I just coined a phrase! "Proto...
I can't find anything on the internet about the remake. All the sites only list the 1968 version, which is the B&W one. I did find a nice description of it on the The Jim Henson Works at the University of Maryland site:
Jim Henson and Rowlf the Dog explain the art of puppetry, from building...
But with Kermit and Animal the last prototypes we saw were very close. Animal's nose was still too small, but we were told it would be bigger on the production model.
With Gonzo, we've been told they've "gone back to the drawing board", but there's been no explanation of what that means or...
Oh, they were definitely different years. The concept was the same... Jim explaining puppetry and especially the Muppets, but I think there was better, more specific information in the B&W version. For instance, Don Sahlin and Jim show exactly how a Muppet goes from concept drawing to finished...
"The Muppets on Puppets" was one program in a series called "Adventure in the Arts" (I believe... I may be wrong on the overall title). I'm not sure about years, but I can definitely tell you that the B&W version WAS rebroadcast after 1970. I worked at a Public Television network from 1971 -...
I'm very excited to finally get a pristine copy of "The Muppets on Puppets". I just hope it's the original B&W version and not the remade color version which wasn't as good.
:p
Here's what I think is so great about Terry's protos that is wrong with the REAL posers being used. The bottom jaw is set back slightly, so that when his mouth is closed, his top lip sticks out more than his bottom lip. To me, it gives him that "Fozzie" look that the professional posers are...
I would agree, except that the pictures they STILL have on their website for Kermit and Animal are of the prototypes... and Gonzo, for that matter.
Whatever is going on, this is just very bad customer service. How many people here didn't pre-order Gonzo because of the lack of information...
I find this very hard to believe. They must have gotten a final prototype before they okay'd production. I can't imagine them saying, "Change this and this and this and then make 2500 of them," without seeing how the changes look. That would be foolish and they've been in business too long...
The only reason I can think of that they wouldn't post a new photo (they have to have gotten a newer prototype from the factory) is that he hasn't changed. I hope I'm wrong, I really do. I want him to be a great Great Gonzo, but it does seem odd that it's so difficult to take a pitcure. Even...
Might I also suggest that there is self-adhesive felt that you can get at Michael's if you're nervous about using hot glue. I haven't tried it yet, but this is what I'm planning to do with mine. I think it will be much easier to correct a mistake this way.
