Weekly Box Office and Film Discussion Thread

Sounds like The Good Dinosaur will be like Up meets The Land Before Time, what with all the character-driven moments and the overall low-key feel that both had. I still have some cautious optimism for it because of it.

    When you need to rant...

They've always used the original Stars and Bars that was flown prior to the Civil War, rather than the Battle Flag. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Six_flags_over_Texas#/media/File:Flag_of_the_Confederate_States_of_America_(March_1861_–_May_1861).svg

And I'm totally in favor of Mississippi changing its flag to something more akin to the Magnolia Flag. If Georgia can eliminate that rebel design, so can they.

Weekly Box Office and Film Discussion Thread

Jurassic World and Inside Out continue to stay on top, with Terminator Genisys barely clinging on to #3. Meanwhile, Magic Mike XXL only managed to reach 4th place, and turned in a much lower opening than its predecessor. http://www.boxofficemojo.com/weekend/chart/?yr=2015&wknd=27&p=.htm

    Worst/creepiest puppets/puppeteer work

Though Gary Cahuenga from Muppets Tonight actually managed to have a lot more life and a lot less of an uncanny valley feel to him somehow. I suppose it's the fact that he can actually move his arms that makes it so.

    The Rick and Morty thread

The 2nd season finally premiered with the first 2 episodes, and I'd say the one with the multiple outcomes occurring simultaneously must have took a heck of a long time to animate, as each one is slightly different from the other.

The "I'm amazed at how terrible this is" thread

And the last episode of Don't Scare the Hare was a clip show only because the show was such an expensive flop for the BBC that they needed to get rid of it somehow!

    Worst/creepiest puppets/puppeteer work

I think I know how those full-bodied puppets from the earlier Good News Network clip were operated. I actually read up about how the Barney the Dinosaur suit from the TV show onwards ingeniously has the wearer grip a rod inside the suit with his/her teeth and bob their head up and down to move...

    Sesame Street's most disturbing bits

What also makes it disturbing is that unlike other cautionary tale segments on the show, it has a downer ending. Wanda never gets exercise and will lead to a future of washing herself with a rag on a stick.

Sony ditches hybrid Smurf movies, goes to straight up CGI

This new Smurfs movie now has a new name: Get Smurfy. And here's a look at what the film will look like, along with the new voice cast. http://www.cartoonbrew.com/feature-film/get-smurfy-114471.html Disappointing that Hank Azaria won't stick around as Gargamel, since he had a ton of fun in...

Weekly Box Office and Film Discussion Thread

Max has been receiving mixed reviews. I'll give it credit for trying to hearken back to those down-to-earth, family-friendly pet movies of the past (Homeward Bound, Air Bud, the 1994 Lassie movie, etc...), but it just looks way too emotionally manipulative and nationalistic to me. I did enjoy...

Weekly Box Office and Film Discussion Thread

Hats off to Jurassic World for being number 1 for the 3rd week in a row. Inside Out still managed to hold steady at 2nd place, however, while Ted 2 wound up in 3rd, and also continues the trend of comedy sequels not opening as strong as their predecessors...

I agree with you on the CAPTCHAs. I'm glad TV Tropes did away with them ever since upgrading their site.

    Questions about anything

I don't think it's illegal at all, any more so than wearing a maple leaf here. So go ahead and show off that bikini! :)

    Questions about anything

I do know that it's illegal to record a prank call without both party's consent, unless you live in Nevada where only one party needs to give consent. That's why nearly all the prank calls in Crank Yankers were done in Nevada.

Wait a Minute... "DreamWorks' Dragons"? What?

I also love how unlike the other DW shows where the visuals are dumbed down quite a bit from the movies for budget reasons, Dragons' visuals look very close to the detail from the movies, and this is even more apparent in the 3rd season. :)

    Questions about anything

You must be thinking about Mon Colle Knights. That used almost Samurai Pizza Cats levels of gag dubbing. :)

Wait a Minute... "DreamWorks' Dragons"? What?

Now that Netflix has continued the series as part of Dreamworks' exclusive deal with them, the 3rd season has premiered under the title Dragons: Race to the Edge. They're also planning on 2 more seasons, which I imagine will be set after the upcoming 3rd movie. Jay Baruchel and the others must...
