The thing is too often I notice authority figures concentrating on petty things like censoring TV shows while blatantly ignoring actual bullying going on in a classroom.
Actually I've been meaning to say this, I don't get the impression Don Music was ever actually banned from the show. Just his head banging. I know that book said that but I think the author was mistaken. I remember seeing a clip on YT of Don from late '80s/early 90s.
Only if you're a rude kid...
We'll have to file this under "agree to disagree." Lol. I think those segments were inspirational because it showed realistic kids actually learning something.
Not like the bland Barney groupies that resembled no kid that ever existed, lol.
And kids do NOT need the TV to teach them to be...
They aren't the most sympathetic victims around no, lol. Not by any means. But I'm not going to come down on them harder just because I like a TV show (not saying you're doing that).
I see that as art imitating life. That is often how kids behave in class. And they would do it with or without the TV. There's no point in painting a false picture of the real world. The point of the segments was to show that despite their rough edges, the kids were learning something.
I understand where you're coming from. It can be very frustrating when someone you care about doesn't help themselves.
They were stupid, yes absolutely. Kids are often stupid. That's why adults need to be responsible.
Like I said, innocent until proven guilty. I just don't believe a crime...
That's not true though, a lot of victims do wait. I'm not saying these guys are definitely victims, I don't know. But it is true that some genuine victims take a long time to come forward.
I don't know what really happened in this particular situation obviously. But I don't like this statute of limitations nonsense when it comes to such a serious issue.
Wow, sounds like you guys had more money than we did, lol. We just reenacted scenes from the Gospel for ourselves, like Jesus telling the apostles to put their fishing nets in the sea or Jesus asking Zacchaeus to come down from the tree (we took turns standing on a chair to represent the tree...
That's really interesting to learn about. We don't have Sunday school because either the kids go to the Catholic school attached to the church, or the public school kids go to CCD (Catechism) classes after school during the week. Sometimes we had Bible camp during the summer, which could be fun...
We did read Anne Frank and Eli Wisel's books in Middle School and High School for summer reading (both excellent), but we rarely got as far as WWII in Social Studies/History class, lol.
Some teachers do latch on to a particular period. Our 6th grade Social Studies class was taken up entirely...
It is pretty pathetic how blissfully ignorant some kids can be, lol. But I blame the parents who clearly didn't think they needed to play a role in teaching their kids about culture at an early age. And then they're shocked that their kids don't know anything.
Though at least kids have an...
Well there were a lot of people who weren't racist, it's just that their voices weren't always listened to by the influential in society.
But I would agree that the '40s was certainly a dark time for everyone during the war and all.
Thanks for sharing about the movie, I might check that out! :)
No, more like art is the arbiter of art. But actually Gonzo taking the role makes a lot of sense ("What do you know about great art?!") Lol, poor Gonzo. :concern:
Cool, I agree. :)
Yes and no, for me. I respect personal taste, but I do think there are periods in art that are better than others, period. No artist can always be good for their entire career, that just does not happen. I know that's a bit harsh and I don't expect everyone to agree with me...
