Sam and Friends Book Read our review of the long-awaited book, "Sam and Friends - The Story of Jim Henson's First Television Show" by Muppet Historian Craig Shemin.
Fonzie (not Fozzie) in this movie reminded me of Patrick from Spongebob after the show jumped the shark, heh. Yes, he figures something out, but in the most cringe worthy way possible.
I'm sorry for being such a pain, guys, you just have no idea how heart broken I was this weekend. I'm just done.
Mean spirited was the vibe I got from this entire film and it's a shame because I thought the Muppets had left that back in the '90s. I can't excuse this movie by putting Fozzie down (I know you're not trying to do that). Fozzie is naive perhaps but he has never been utterly oblivious and...
I seriously do wish they'd considered Television. It might actually give them time to develop the characters. Something these movies barely seem to have time to concentrate on.
Yup. And I found that in all of the gulag scenes. They clearly KNEW how to get this across, they just didn't seem to think the Muppets (other than Kermit) should be involved, heh.
I really should be used to the feeling by now, heh, but for some reason not enjoying MMW really got me upset last night. I'm sorry if I'm nerves are still raw. ;)
I'm sure other audiences enjoyed the film. That's great for them. I will never be seeing it again.
No, they didn't. That's what I'm saying. TM2011 and MMW improved on some things when compared to the '90s. But compared to the original films, TM2011 and MMW don't have the same level of wit. Like I said, somewhere in the middle.
I have to agree. The whole point of Peanuts is it's children saying unexpected, grown up things. The way to get that across in a charming way was to use real children's voices but have the cover of animated characters. I think if you used live action children awkwardly saying such lines it would...
Well that's what I'm saying. They don't have the stupid humor of the '90s films, nor the snark of original films. They're in the middle and it's an awkward place to be.
Just curious, do you think I'm the type to laugh at a movie like Nut Job? Because I didn't laugh much at MMW either, at least at none of the scenes that didn't involve Kermit or the human cameos.
Yes and I think I understand why. The Nut Job knows exactly what it wants to be. It wants to be stupid, true, but at least it knows. And there are obvious jokes that will provoke a knee jerk reaction from the easily amused. Muppets 2011 and MMW keep being afraid to commit to anything. They don't...
Um, yeah, trust me, my neighborhood doesn't have that many cynics. That would be nice actually, lol. :p They were just your average working class people. I don't mean that in a mean way. I'm just saying there was no agenda to be found.
Most the characters were pretty much on the sidelines or...
I'll be honest. What I heard about 5 times in the theater were "polite chuckles" (to reference Featherstone ;)). They wanted to like it, at least that was my impression.
Like I said, it's a question of execution. As usual, the difference between good and bad writing. It's funny when Kermit makes a comment like that about intermission. It's painful to watch the Muppets ridiculed because they're "too stupid to be that stupid" for 2 hours.
Oi, I'm just done. I...
It feels like the writers looked at a couple of Muppet Show episodes and thought, "Oh I see! The joke is that it's a terrible show! We'd better drive home how pathetic the Muppets are and how audiences need to be PAID just to see them! That's funny, right?....Ha ha?..." Totally lack of...
Of course it is. It just wasn't funny for me. Or for my entire theater. Dead silence for most of the film. And you could tell they wanted to laugh more. It just wasn't coming.
If it felt like a clever wink to a cliche, I'd agree with you. I just didn't get the vibe that that even crossed...
