Chapter 3
I was going to make the dinner table part of the date all one big chapter, but I decided to break it up instead, or else it would be way too long to read at once, so here is Chapter 3, enjoy, i'll try to post chapter 4 later tonight!
Kermit was sitting at the table, wondering what in the world he got himself into. What am I doing? I’m a frog in a restaurant (he was always a little uncomfortable at restaurants) at a hotel in the middle of the country with a bear and a whatever upstairs eating take-out and me all dressed up, waiting to have dinner with a lady pig.
He was wearing a dark red, three-piece suit that was his father’s, but fit him very nicely. He remembered that when he left the swamp for Hollywood, his parents gave him the suit, and told him it was for “special occasions” (especially occasions where he shouldn’t be naked). This was definitely one of those occasions. He wanted to look great, hoping that maybe his clothes would make up for how extremely nervous he was right now.
I haven’t been on a date since the junior hop back at the swamp, and she looked nothing like Miss Piggy did! He tugged at his vest, unbuttoned his white undershirt and puffed his chest out, trying to look as suave and charming as possible while waiting for Miss Piggy to arrive. She said that she would meet him in the restaurant at 8:00, but it was almost 8:30. He wondered what the hold up was. Maybe I should order us drinks so they’ll be here when she comes, that would look debonair, right? Kermit checked his wallet and noticed he was a little short on cash. Only a few bills and that nickel they got back from trading in Fozzie’s uncle’s Studebaker. I’ll ask the waitress if there are any uh, cheaper drinks available. “Excuse me, uh waitress?”
A waitress dressed in traditional German clothing walked up to the table. “Can I help you sir?”
“Yes, uh, do you have any wines or champagnes that are uh, on the less expensive side, Miss uh, Marianne?” Kermit said as he looked at her nametag.
“It’s Arianne, actually” said the waitress, “You were close, though. It’s just like Marianne, just take off the M.”
“Oh, I’m sorry. Arianne, that’s a pretty name” said Kermit
“Thank you!”, said the waitress. “Let’s see about that wine, shall we?” she looked at her list of specials she dug out of her apron. “Hmm, looks like we have a Sparkling Muscatel that we are selling for, wow! 99cents a bottle! Seems like we have way too much of it and the manager just wants to get rid of it.”
“Great! Can I order a bottle of that please? I, uh, I’m expecting a young lady to come join me any moment” said Kermit nervously as he looked around for Miss Piggy.
“Right away sir!”, said Arianne “I’ll bring out an ice bucket and have it chilling next to the table. When you are ready for me serve it, you just call me over and I will serve with as much grace as I can muster. I’ll be sure to try to make you look good in front of your lady friend”
“Gee thanks!”, said Kermit “I don’t have a lot of money though, so I probably won’t be able to leave you a big tip”
“Oh that’s ok, I’m glad to help you out. It looks like you’re a little nervous, you being a little green around the face and all. Just relax and be yourself and I’m sure your evening will go just fine!”, said the waitress, feeling a little bad after making the green joke, but the frog did look nervous.
“Thanks”, said Kermit, forgetting about the green joke.
Before he knew it, the waitress had the wine chilling in a silver ice bucket next to the table. “There you go”, said Arianne. “Remember, when you want it served, just call me over. I hope…” The waitress was startled after hearing a very loud crash coming from the next room. “I better go check and see what that was about, Good Luck tonight!” and with that she hurried from the table to see what happened.
Meanwhile, Miss Piggy was dusting off her dress after knocking a waiter to the floor on her way to meet Kermit. “Vous really need to be more careful! If vous would have got anything on moi, I would have cut vous in half!”, said Piggy. She was running in dangerously high heels to meet Kermit for their date and that waiter must have come out of nowhere!
The waitress took one look at the lady pig and knew instantly that she must be the frog’s lady friend. “He’s right through there”, said Arianne as she tried to help clean up the other waiter, who had soup all over him. She saw Kermit just on the other side of the door and did one last touch-up on her hair before going to see him. He looks so adorable, thought Piggy. She tried not to be late but she wanted to make sure she looked perfect, even more perfect than she normally did. She couldn’t figure it out now, but there was something about that frog that made her heart skip a beat every time she saw him. She took a deep breath, assumed her killer super model posture and made her grand entrance through the door.
