Chapter 7
Meanwhile, on the dirt road, the three puppies were still searching, asking anybody they could find, including badgers, owls, and even a moose.
"So, you haven't seen him then?" Asked Clover.
"Nope.....sorry miss....I haven't seen.....him."
Dejected, the puppies walked away.
"That was the worst John Wayne impersonation I have ever heard." whispered Spot.
"Maybe we should go back home." suggested Rover.
Clover sighed. "Maybe you're right. Which way home?"
"That's easy!" Spot and Rover said. "That way!" But they pointed in different directions.
Clover slapped her forehead. "Oh no."
So, the puppies kept on searching, and going down the dirt road, until they got to a giant swamp.
"Let's ask the locals here. Maybe they've seen him." suggested Clover.
Just then, Croaker, Goggles, and Blotch popped out of the marsh grass, looking for something.
"Are you sure you put it here Goggles?" asked Croaker.
"I am certain! Have I ever been wrong before?"
"Well...." Blotch counted on his fingers.
The puppies went up to the three amphibians, and Clover was going to ask them about Rowlf. But she was overcome with emotion when she saw Goggles.
"Well, hello there cutie."
Goggles looked around, wondering if she was talking to him.
"Huh? What?"
Spot stepped forward.
"We were wondering if you guys seen our brother. He's about so high, floppy ears, and a big black nose. Oh, and he has brown fur."
Croaker's eyes widened. "Wait a minute, is your brother named Rowlf?"
"Yes! Yes it is!" exclaimed Rover.
"Well, he's here. We could take you to him."
"That would be great!" exclaimed Clover. She went up to Goggles.
"Lead the way, big boy."
"Your invading my personal space." said Goggles nervously.
The six entered the swamp, and into a big opening, filled with frogs, leaping and hopping, not to mention croaking. Then, they spotted Rowlf, sitting in the middle, with Kermit and Maggie by his side, playing the piano. And Kermit playing the banjo, and Maggie singing.
"You shake my nerves, and you rattle my brain.
Too much love drives a frog insane.
You broke my will,
but what a thrill.
Goodness gracious, great balls of fire!"
"ROWLF!"
The music stopped. Rowlf looked in the direction where he heard his name. He saw his brothers and sister, and was overcome with happiness.
"GUYS!"
He got up from the piano, ran over to them, and hugged them all at once.
"Clover, Spot, Rover! How did you find me?"
"By luck." responded Rover.
"Not to mention a moose with a bad John Wayne impersonation. Wait, he didn't help.....nevermind."
"It was the help of those two frogs, and that cute toad." She pointed over to Croaker, Blotch, and Goggles. Goggles blushed.
"Well, how did you get here?" Rowlf asked.
"It's a long story." responded Rover.
"I have time."
So, the three puppies told Rowlf of the useless farm meeting, the walking down the dirt road, the creatures they asked, and finally, getting there. Before they were finished, over 3000 frogs, including Rowlf, were hanging on to their every word.
"Uh.....I feel very uncomfortable." said Spot.
"Don't worry. You'll get used to it."
"We were going to get back to the farm with you, but I'm afraid we're lost." said Rover sadly.
"Well, these guys are going to have a swamp party in a few days. Why don't you stay till that, then we can find our way home."
Clover put her arm around Goggles.
"Sounds good to me."
"Uncomfortable. Veeeeery uncomfortable." said Goggles nervously.
So, the puppies decided to stay, and were introduced to everybody in the swamp, including Kermit's and Maggie's mom. She gave all three a big hug.
"You three can call me mom as well."
The three smiled at the middle aged frog. With a voice like that, who would argue?
