Chapter 12
Kermit, Maggie, Croaker, Goggles, and Blotch finally got to the warehouse. They snuck to the side, and climbed on top of some crates that were stacked up to the window. They peered inside, and what they saw was just horrible.
Cages upon cages of poor dogs, shivering and scared. Just the sight of it caused Maggie to cling onto Croaker. He didn't mind.
"Look! There's Rowlf!" whispered Goggles.
And sure enough, there was Rowlf, clinging to his brothers and sister.
"We've got to get him out of there." whispered Kermit.
"But how? We're not tall enough to open the door, and those two ugly men would soon be back eventually." whispered Maggie.
Just then, Kermit got a idea.
"How many of us are there?"
"Ooh, ooh! Uh......" Blotch counted everyone standing on the crate, including himself. "Five?"
"That's right Blotch. We can stand on each other's shoulders, and open the door." explained Kermit.
Maggie grinned with that familiar twinkle in her eye. "That's a good idea bro."
Kermit did a double take. "A compliment from you? Wow, that's a first."
"Don't get used to it."
And so, the amphibians got off the crates, headed for the front door, and got on each other's shoulders. In order, it was Blotch on the bottom, then Kermit, Maggie, Croaker, and on top, Goggles.
"Here goes." Goggles struggled against the doorknob, putting in all his strength. After many attempts, he finally got the door open.
The amphibians lost their balance, and fell on the warehouse floor.
"Ow....why did I say that was a good idea again?" Maggie asked.
"Shhhh!" Kermit shushed. "Come on."
They snuck through the warehouse, and after observing the many cages, they finally found Rowlf and the puppies. Rowlf spotted them.
"Guys! How did you find us?"
"It's a long story." said Kermit.
"We have time."
"No, we'll tell you later."
They opened the cage, and the puppies got out.
"Thank you so much guys." Rowlf said.
"My hero!" Clover grabbed Goggles and licked his face all over.
"OK, OK....it's good to see you too. Come on, let's get out of this place of misery."
"Hold it! We have to set all these dogs free." Maggie proclaimed.
"But, there must be hundreds of dogs in here." Croaker protested.
"Maggie's right guys. Come on, everybody start opening cages!" said Kermit.
The nine brave animals set every dog in the warehouse free. But, before they could celebrate, the bad men came in.
"How did you mutts get out? Well, I guess we will have to put you back in again."
"Uh.....boss?"
"What is it?!"
"They outnumber us 100 to 2."
"Oh. Well then, time to run I suppose."
"Couldn't hurt."
The warehouse full of dogs shown their teeth, and deep growls came out of their throats.
The two men came running out of the warehouse, and police officers were waiting for them. They tackled them to the ground, and handcuffed them, and threw them in the backseat of the police car.
"I told you we should've of robbed banks."
"Aw, shut up."
The animals watched the two men being taken away, and gave a big cheer.
"We can go home!"
"Horray!!"
And so, the dogs all went in seperate directions, to go home. All that was left of the large group was Kermit, Maggie, Croaker, Goggles, Blotch, Rowlf, Clover, Spot, and Rover.
"Thanks again guys. We couldn't ask for better friends." Rowlf stated.
"What are friends for?" Kermit said.
"But, that just leaves one question: How do we get home?"
