Hey, if anyone's looking for a really nice movie, go see "Love Actually." We saw it the other night, and it was really good. If you like romantic comedies, this was a good one. Actually, some of it was more dramatic than comedic, but the whole thing was very enjoyable.
My mom really wants to see that. We're both pretty partial to Hugh Grant, so I'm sure that we will eventually, if not in the theater then at home - probably on a gals' night alone! :stick_out_tongue:

I was really surprised by the number of cameos that remained unpublicized. I don't want to give anything away for people who haven't seen it, but there were some interesting appearances in the film. I also thought that the writing was very good--there were a number of places where they could have taken the easy or predictable way out of a given situation, but they took a less-expected route. Plus, as you say Jennifer, the cast was marvellous and gave very good performances.

Oooh, yay! I love cameos!

Yeah, "Elf" was pretty good. I didn't think it was the best thing I ever saw, but I liked it quite a bit. I would have liked it better if the people behind me hadn't made inane comments through the whole thing. I didn't know whether to throw them a :attitude: kind of look or not. Anyway, the movie is both laugh-out-loud funny and sweet. Definitely a crowd-pleaser.

Ooh, that's so aggravating when people ruin a movie like that. Or a play. When I went to see "Godspell" at my high school the people in front of me were SO rude. They were making all these wisecracks and everything all throughout, even while Jesus was getting killed for crying out loud!! :grouchy: But "Elf" definitely sounds like a winner. Funny and sweet works for me! I almost always love Christmas movies, though. "The Grinch" was great, and I was worried they might wreck such a wonderful book and animated special. I never liked "Cat in the Hat" nearly as much as "The Grinch," but I'm still looking forward to seeing it, if only for the scenery! :stick_out_tongue:

When I saw "Jane Eyre, " the woman behind me was not only hard of hearing, and repeatedly asked her husband what was just said, but she kept missing plot points. After the fire, she asked her husband very loud "Is he dead?" Referring to Rochester...who was on stage at the time explaining that he was alive but blind...

And "Elf" was very cute. It kind of makes you want to cry when you think of the cynicism in the world compared to the innocence we all wish we could have retained from our childhood. A constant theme of Christmas movies. Of course, I was laughing so hard I was crying anyway...What's the line from "Steel Magnolias?" "Laughter through tears is my favorite emotion."

Yeah, especially when they're making crude (and not even particularly funny) comments during a PG movie. It was irritating everyone around us, but we all felt like saying something would have made it worse. Still, blocking them out wasn't too difficult because the movie was so entertaining.

LOL! I went to see "A Beautiful Mind" with my grandma and she spent the whole movie asking me what was going on! And she kept micing up Ed Harris' character and Paul Bettany's character! Two guys who couldn't look or sound more different... :stick_out_tongue:

Never see movies on Friday nights -- there are way too many middle schoolers making smartaleck comments and throwing stuff.

We had a similar situation at "Seabiscuit"--a lot of people had read the book, and were detailing what was going on.

:boo: Is this the race where he loses?
 Yes, I believe he loses this one.
:boo: Does that look like Virginia to you?
 I don't know, it could be...

Argh. When it's little kids who've already read the book, though, it's somewhat excusable, but their parents should tell them not to talk. Actually, when we went to see Disney's "Atlantis" on opening day, there was a kid behind me who had already read the junior storybook version and was narrating everything that was about to happen. It was opening day!

Argh! My brother Benjamin always used to watch movies with us that he'd already seen and would tell us everything that was about to happen right before it happened. :grouchy:

When I saw "The Sixth Sense" for the second time, I heard somebody behind me ruin the twist ending by figuring it out and announcing it about 30 seconds before it was obvious. I'd already seen it, but some of the people I was with had not. Fortunately, their hearing was not as finely-attuned to movie-talkers as mine...
