HBO Max to debut Sesame Street Seasons 51-55 and stream episodes from 50-year library

I just spoke to someone at HBO on the phone yesterday to ask about this, but unfortunately they didn’t seem to be of much help. This was a phone number I got off the press release. They said it probably wasn’t the right number, and so I asked “what is?” And the guy basically told me he doesn’t think they have that information. He said I could try Googling it, which of course I already have. He even said that maybe PBS would know. But how would PBS know anything, since this has nothing to do with PBS? But he did say that more information may be revealed over time.

However, there’s actually something else I wonder about. I know that HBO Max is set to launch in May (though I don’t think there’s an exact date yet). However, it’s possible that Sesame Street won’t be on there at all until Season 51 premieres. Because I do know that Season 50 will continue to air on HBO.

But for now, all I can say is that when it does launch, and SS is on there, I really do hope they have a good enough amount of episodes. Do you really think they would release what episodes they have before the launch?

You know, if HBO Max was to release classic episodes of "Sesame Street", if they were to choose limited runs of episodes, my best guess is, it may likely be the "Unpaved" episodes previously aired on Noggin, only with some of the segments restored and editing elsewhere. Plus, episodes that have story arcs, such as the Season 13 snow arc, and the full Puerto Rico arc. I can also see the full week in which Hooper's Store collapses and gets refurbished being rebroadcast. In other words, they may restrict the classic episodes to those "major" episodes, those with something important occurring, story arcs, and/or the highest-rated episodes.

However, I find it weird that Noggin had no problem airing the "Uncle Wally Returns" episode from Season 17 or 18, yet chose not to air Uncle Wally's debut from Season 15.

You do make a good point. However, most of the classic episodes released on iTunes, Amazon, and Netflix, etc. were not that significant. I’m still not entirely sure why they chose some of those episodes. The earliest season they currently have on HBO that isn’t considered “classic” is season 41. So it’s possible that they may go a bit further back than that, maybe season 30, since that was the first season to have Elmo’s World. I know this may sound weird to classic SS fans, but a lot of people out there cannot imagine SS without EW.

If you get the HBO add on for Hulu, they have a good selection of classic and not so classic stuff. They have almost everything from the Classics volumes from iTunes and such. As well as some new ones from seasons 27-29, and a handful of stuff from seasons 30-33

You mean episodes that weren’t on HBO before? I’ll have to check this out. Exactly how much does it cost, and how many episodes do they have? Could I see a list?

It's the same stuff as HBO, but with episodes from seasons 35-40.

That's exactly what I just found out. The episodes from 27-29 and 31-33 have always been on HBO (well, since SS premiered on there). I just hope HBO Max will be better than this. I wonder if this is what they're talking about...
