531sesamefan informed me that Veston Bruno stole and reposted that Ernie and Bert Separate Ways clips from Muppet Wiki.
I had to warn Veston about reposting Muppet Wiki's stuff. Now I'm not going to bring this up on the forum any further, but if I catch more users stealing and reposting anything from Muppet Wiki's possessions, I will have a stern word with the users and have them obey and take down what they stole, or else I'll have to flag them myself and get YouTube to take them down.

To be fair, the only owner of that clip is Sesame Workshop. Once you upload something online, it kind of belongs to the internet... those are the ropes.

Ernie was such a dick in that clip lol.

Whew. Veston removed the clip like I told him to.
I think the best way to get people to delete anything they stole from Muppet Wiki is to tell them we're gonna flag the videos and have YouTube take them down if they don't obey.

Yes, at the end of the day, that is the truth.

I will say this: the reason these clips are coming out of the ether is because the Wiki has built up enough goodwill to be trusted with this material. And whatever source its coming from is not making itself known, so there's even more trust involved. So, it's not illegal or anything of someone re-uploads what the Wiki has posted, but it feels like the wrong thing to do. Like what does putting something on YT achieve when it's watchable somewhere else?

Some people I think are starving for "views". I remember really being puzzled after uploading clips and then just days later the same video will appear on another's channel.. same exact edits and everything (my street scene edits from the 90s)... I can understand if my uploads were deleted but it's just weird how people would just "copy and paste" the exact same thing!

I do want to mention one rebuttal:

Regardless if you put something on the internet and it becomes everyone’s to download, that doesn’t mean the actual copyright owners have no right to take it down, something I feel the need to correct Frackle’s last note on.

If the workshop posts their own material on the internet via their channel, yes, anybody can download them and re-upload them. But as it’s their property, they can still take it down if they feel the need to. This also applies to anyone who rightfully filmed their own videos or animated them, whatever.

Well, given that these clips have been posted only to Facebook and Twitter, "views" are exactly why they are doing it because they will likely get more views on YouTube than on either Facebook or Twitter since more people search for those clips there than they would on the other sites.

I agree with that wholeheartedly, but you kinda have to go out of your way to find a clip on Facebook (I don't use it), Twitter or the Wiki itself; it's much easier to come across something on YouTube, so why doesn't Muppet Wiki upload said clips to their YouTube account themselves?

The Wiki hasn't had very good luck with YT in the past.

It's been announced that tomorrow's video will be a Bert and Ernie friendship mash-up. I guess that's the current trend with the site, putting out mashups/collections on Fridays (and announcing in advance) as opposed to a throwback Thursday.

I wonder if it'll be a compilation of various Bert and Ernie segments or if it'll be more like that recent Grover Mishaps Mashup. The "mashup" part of the title makes me think it will be like the Grover one, but it would be cool if it'd be a collection of full segments, especially if there's some rarities included (though I have a feeling it'll mostly be segments that Sesame Workshop has posted online before).

EDIT TO ADD: Turns out I misunderstood, as soon as I posted I went to YouTube and it was on the main page. And it is a montage of clips.
