i am american, and not one of the people who have won thus far is my idol.
whatever happened to people who played instruments, wrote songs, and had actual talent.
now pr folks just dress em up, teach them some ridiculous dance moves, and somehow sell records to people who don't know any better.

I think it would be really cool to have a "Songwriter's Idol" or something like that, but it would be a lot harder to pull off...

I have to say, Fantasia really grew on me throughout the competiton. I always thought she was talented but she kinda bugged me in the beginning. By halfway through, though, I really liked her, though I still liked LaToya better. But if it had to come down to Fantasia and Diana, I definitely think Fantasia was the one to win. The ending really didn't do much for me this year, and I think they're all wet when they say how much better this year is than the first two. I don't think anything can outdo last year. I think the only way I could get more excited about a contestant than I was about Clay is if some Scottie hottie gets in the running. Hey, if folks from Bulgaria and Albania can try out for American Idol, why not Scotland or Ireland? :stick_out_tongue:

Ditto, completely. Well, except maybe the part about the "Scottie hottie..." Ooh, unless it's Scotty from Star Trek. But I never thought of him as a hottie. But he'd still be a great contestant.

Anyway, of the two, I was rooting for Fantasia. Still would have liked to see a Fantasia / La Toya showdown, though.

LOL! I always did love Scotty. I remember being taken aback when I saw the huge difference between series Scotty and movie Scotty. He didn't even look like the same person! Still sounded the same, though. I was very disappointed when I found out James Doohan wasn't really Scottish. Have you ever seen Veggie Tales? I love Scooter, and I think it's so awesome that the whole reason he's a character is that on one episode they were doing a Star Trek spoof and used Scooter as the staple member of the U.S.S. Applepies. That was great!

No, I don't know about the  from Veggie Tales, but I do always like a good Star Trek spoof.

Star Trek spoofs rock! Hehe, I wasn't thinking about the Muppet Scooter too. This Scooter is a carrot with a mustache and, in the Star Trek spoof episode, a kilt and a golfer hat. Another one I got a kick out of was an "Adventures in Odyssey" episode featuring the show "Star Quest." The guys who were supposed to be like Kirk, Spock, and Scotty were really funny. And that old "Wonder Years" episode parodying "Spock's Brain" is awesome.

Hey all,

Has anyone picked up Fantasia's single yet? I was wondering how it is... I wasn't crazy about the original song that she and Diana both sang on the finale, but it might be worth it for the other two songs...

Before I respond to you post, Andy, congrats on reaching 2,000 posts! :sing:

I've wanted to buy Fantasia's single but I can't find it anywhere but yet I see Dianna's everywhere. :boo:

Anyway, did you hear that Fantasia's single is #1 knocking Usher off the top spot? But she didn't sell as much as Kelly, Ruben, or Clay did with their first single.

Ooh, congrats, Andy! On a related note... When the heck did I hit 2000 posts? I thought I was still in the thousands! :stick_out_tongue:
