    Beaker in progress

Mendels. Orange Party Monster. I've actually just "rehaired" him, and would recommend giving the fur a boiling treatment briefly before yo use it...the fur as it is, is a little too wispy.

Yep - Chef's on his way!

Just made a Puppet building tutorial!

I'd say not - the advantage of using diluted PVA glue is that the glue soaks into the fibres which - when they dry - provides some rigidity. Just using spray adhesive would only deliver glue to the outside of the year, and would probably provide not much more than a sticky mess to attract dust...

    Beaker in progress

Thanks, wulster Can anyone guess who's the next on my list?
  6. Bear Man

    Beaker in progress

Yes - at the moment there are some foam hands filling out the "gloves", however they are easily removed so that i can place my hands in the fleece. The arms of the lab coat need some further work - right now there's only a split in the seam near the elbow to allow my hand access to the fleece...

Fur for the hair has finally arrived. Next steps - attach it properly, and create his shirt.

    How is Miss Piggy made?

I didn't know the current version started off life as a 3D sculpt and print. Would love to get that! (A 3D print would be the ideal basis for a photo puppet replica, I mean you couldn't move her snout but it'd be much more durable than foam latex)

    Beaker in progress

Thanks, Foxworthy. Mouthplate was pretty simple - just reasonably heavy-duty acrylic felt with a strip of gasket rubber on the lower jaw part to reinforce it and stop it stretching out of shape. I then put the red ultrasuede lining on top of that, and then a foam covering over the whole thing to...

    Beaker in progress

HunterPeeples - nope, this is just for my own enjoyment. Besides, Disney are notoriously fierce defenders of their copyrights and trademarks. Muppetperson - thanks for the compliment! Beaker's nose colour does seem to change hue depending on what version of the puppet was in use, although I...

    Beaker in progress

Thanks, Muppetboy09! Although the more I look at it, the more sure I am that his nose is the wrong colour. Oh well, it'll be easy enough to remove and re-dye the fleece
  13. Bear Man

    Beaker in progress

Thanks guys. Here's the next stage...just waiting for his hair fur to arrive
  14. Bear Man

    Beaker in progress

Beaker, based on a mailing tube wrapped with foam, in progress. Dyeing Antron to the right PMS colour for his skin tomorrow (thanks Rit dye doctor!). Thoughts?

    Puppet-in-Progress: From the foam up

Nah, it's just a small square of leather - the same stuff that I used to make my finger loops for the mouth plate. It's your standard sort of craft-leather, I think the fact it's got one rough/suede side also helps it to "grab" hold of the inside of the palm pocket, further avoiding the need for...

    Is This Jersey?

Yeah, I'd say that's right...when all else fails ask Wikipedia! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Velveteen That tongue looks like Ultrasuede to me (synthetic suede - much thinner than any "real" suede I've come across), Bermuda Pink possibly...

    Is This Jersey?

Technically I would say it's "velveteen", which is a cotton (usually), imitation velvet.

    Puppet-in-Progress: From the foam up

BJ Guyer suggests a pretty large (1/2 inch) square flag at the end of arm rods that he then places double stick tape on before slipping into the palm pocket - I tried that with my arm rods and they work perfectly even without the double stick tape...

    Is This Jersey?

It's not jersey. It's like a very loose pile (cheap?) velvet. If you are having issues closing the mouth, can I suggest a 3-piece mouth plate. A top, a botton, and a 3-5mm wide piece that is between the two - like this mouth plate i'm building right now:
