I think you’re right - snout might be a bit too long. But otherwise looking AWESOME!
Maybe take a look at MJL Puppets on Facebook - they’ve got some photos of their unflocked head - note that the space they use for the eyes has been pre-flattened - this might help with making sure the eyes have...
I think you might be over-thinking things! It looks to me like there's just some boards that resemble the fence just behind the stairs, in front of where the puppeteer would be. No need for post production tricks!
Thanks, Buck-Beaver. It was that process of trimming fur to different lengths/thicknesses that i was wondering about. An old pair of human hair clippers ended up doing the job of shaping his face, getting his palms and fingers working right, etc quite well.
Thanks for the feedback guys. I ended up sewing, trimming with clippers, turning it inside out and then putting in boiling water for 20 seconds, and I'm happy with the results - if you're using clippers I'd definitely recommend trimming before boiling because trying to run clippers through...
When you look closely at puppets like Fozzie, you can see that the length of fur varies - the fur on his face is much shorter than on his chin, his fingers and palms of his hands have shorter fur than the bulk of his arms, etc.
Can anyone tell me what the main/best method for trimming fur is...
Re: the length - that's a good point I probably should have mentioned...those hands are literally that - hands that I have used for Beaker, who I am primarily building as a poser (even if I wasn't, the arm sleeves would be the fabric and colour of his lab coat, not his actual hands).
You're...
As far as I'm concerned, just go with whatever works for you.
That said, to give you a better idea of what I have used, in the pattern I showed above, the finger length goes to about my middle knuckle. Puppet fingers seem to work better when they have less of them than we do (3 vs 4) and...
Apologies if this has been brought up elsewhere in the thread and I haven't seen it, but what was up with the Piggy puppet? Her lower jaw was clearly "bulging" to her left (on the right as you look at her), obviously as a result of the puppeteer's thumb. Have they re-made the puppet resulting in...
Sorry mate - I didn't notice your earlier question...let me know if you still want my thoughts on it (I'm not an expert by any stretch, just an amateur who has puzzled some stuff out!)
I attach the thumb so the fold side is pointing up...anything that I can do to minimise the amount of seams...
I can attest to that - the contact tenement I use (Selley's Kwik Grip here in Australia) will permanently bond foam to foam, but if I'm trying to adhere it to gasket rubber or even the smooth side of leather, I need to roughen up the other material with some sand paper.
I think Barge Cement specifically is made flexible/soft again on the introduction of heat. I wouldn't suggest trialling that idea on other content cements for the exact reason you state.
Happy to share the glove portion of my puppets I've developed. As a note of explanation this is 2-piece pattern for a four-fingered puppet, the thumb is attached separately to the cut-out section...obviously you would only make an incision on one half of the fabric!
