To be fair, I think that the Marvel audience has a lot more options than what Disney are seeing with the Muppets. I thought the ABC series continued the tone of the teaser that was shown; the series was poorly received yet that teaser was a success. It’s almost as if any Muppets project that has...
Hmm. I also think that Frank Oz had the opportunity to take lead of the Muppets as a brand after Jim Henson died, and decided to go in another direction, so I don’t know how helpful it is for him to continue to negatively comment publicly on the direction the brand is being taken. I take your...
Well from what I remember reading they were expressing unhappiness with Whitmire’s interpretation of the characters and his off-screen behaviour. I’m not making any comment about the accuracy or lack thereof of their complaints, I’m just saying that if an individual is considered to produce...
Ah yes, as an Australian I know (and have experienced) similar nightmares (if not worse!) I’ve been very lucky in finding a local foam supplier who will cut white reticulated foam to the right thickness. However I’ve got no chance of finding local suppliers of fur in a range of colours and...
I believe most of them are closed cell white foam, cut then sanded into shape and contact cemented in place.
Animal is a difference story though, his teeth look to me like reticulated foam carved into shape and then painted with acrylic. I’ve made similar teeth by carving them out of upholstery...
He looks awesome - congrats! I think by lining both sides of the styrene with ultra suede you’ll have bright up the thickness and flexibility to something akin to what would be had with gasket rubber. Did you line with red and then place a black cutout on top for his throat? I don’t know how the...
I don't know Elmo well enough - ask the Project Puppet people for their advice. They won't be able to tell you what pattern precisely is used for Elmo, but they should be able to advise on what they have that would be closest.
Thanks for the compliments, all. I think that - as Blue Frackle says - because he's not replicated all that often (and doesn't get as much screen time as some of the others), it's probably a bit easier to make a Swedish Chef that looks "around about right". If I look closely, the lower lip size...
The problem is getting the right parts of the skull to flex - the chef's mouth looks like it moves from almost a horizontal slit to a diamond shape. As soon as you add his big lower lip, though, that reinforces the lower lip as a straight line and the mouth no longer wants to flex that way...
Look! Over there! It's a clumsy attempt to distract you so I can avoid answering your question!
In all seriousness, he's been put on the back burner. Trying to work out exactly how the original Chef's mouth was constructed is not as easy as I'd thought it would be, and since I'd be looking to...
The good thing about puppet making is you can use whatever works for you to achieve the outcome you’re after.
In my experience memory foam can be quite heavy and doesn’t hold its shape all that well (instead it conforms to the shape of whatever is on it), so mightn’t be the best material for...
