Avenue Q Politcal Puppets Perform in Times Square

It's awesome that Jen seems to be doing a little more and getting more media exposure. She's great.

How do I get a job as a Muppeteer?

Like Phil, I would seriously doubt that there would be any kind of open auditions. For one thing, some sort of open "cattle call" would mostly be a waste of time because there are not really that many people who are talented enough to work at the level of someone like Dave Golez who aren't...

    Gluing Technique Help!

Weld Bond actually works on foam and is non-toxic, but it takes the better part of a day to dry.

    A beginning...

Not sure if this helps answer the question or not, but I generally sew rather than glue features on. This has a number of advantages including the fact that it's not permanent and can be adjusted or changed later on. Just a quick tip - you should always cut the backing of fur, but not the fur...

Stickys: Too Much of a Good Thing?

Just wondering if the proliferation of stickys on the forum in recent months may be getting out of hand. A lot of the pinned (sticky) threads are infrequently posted too (why is the Weinerville thread in puppetry sticky?). I think stickys are probably best used on a short-term basis to...

How do I get a job as a Muppeteer?

It's funny people get so caught up puppetry-wise in the Muppety stuff (I suppose I am guilty of that too though). A puppeteer from Florida was telling me last year how whenever he used to see Jim Henson at puppet festivals he usually ignored the people doing Muppet-like work and would check out...

How do I get a job as a Muppeteer?

I think it's only harsh for those who think that they can apply to Henson or Disney or whoever, they'll get hired and be set for life which of course isn't the way it works. The thing to do is become very, very good and get to know other people in the `biz. Then if you're lucky you'll either be...

    Full body puppetering

I don't do many "full body" or costume puppets, but they're fun and physically exhausting. When I did black light theatre we frequently did a large production number of "Monster Mash" and I often used to perform this huge 8'0 tall Frankenstein. That was a lot of fun. We also had large Sumo...

How do I get a job as a Muppeteer?

That's probably true but I would suggest that people not make assumptions or base expectations on shows or books from the 70s/80s (or even 90s). The company is very different today than it was then or even a few years ago. Focus on becoming a good puppeteer if it's what you really want and then...

    MC Person of the Month

Wow, thanks guys. I had no idea I had tied with Crazy Harry - you should email the winners!! Oh, and I'm still willing to do those funky Muppet web buttons for the web pages of winners but someone will have to email me every month as I don't remember to check this thread. EDIT: So as I...

    Pinching or Clamping?

Clamping is very, very, very bad with foam. By "pinching" I mean lightly pressing the foam together. Don't do it too hard!!

Caroll Spinney Coming To Waterloo, IA

Caroll Spinney is speaking at the next Wartburg College convocation on Oct. 5th. The event is free and open to the public - sounds like a great chance for any fans in that area to go see Caroll in person. More info -...

    Basil Hears A Noise

Probably this belongs in the Sesame Street area but it was a TV special in Canada. I've seen it on VHS for sale at Wal-Mart and Toys R Us here. I have a copy of it somewhere.

    Jeepers Creepers...look at these peepers!

I've used doll eyes a lot, the only problem is that it's hard to get them large enough. I noticed that the biggest size that site carrys is 26 mm which is kind of small. Depends what size your puppets are I suppose.

    Bear Town: Episode Two Online

I think it maybe the computer, sometimes Quicktime files play back out of sync if you are low on memory or system resources. Usually reloading the file or rewinding it and replaying it will fix the problem. Glad you liked it, there's another video coming on Tuesday.
