Thanks! Yeah... I spend a lot of time pondering this stuff. I like to write and it's always a good thing to understand the mechanics of storytelling and character creation if you want to write well.
And so I have a very hard time NOT applying that to things that I like and examining how they...
My day job is building props and creating special effects. Mostly for still-photography (ad industry). I have done items for movies as well.
I was on set with a 5 foot tall Pinocchio that we built.
As I said, I told the joke and they all just stared at me like I was showing a dog a card...
To continue my thought above:
When I referred to the Muppets as "broad but not very deep" I was alluding to the following, in which I personally find great validity.
Scott McCloud, in "Understanding Comics", talks at length about what he calls "the masking effect". This is basically a...
Yup. It's in my personal library. I failed to qualify the statement.
The Muppets, IMO, are very much like the concept of P'u in Taoist philosophy. Explained very concisely in "The Tao of Pooh" by Benjamin Hoff, the "uncarved block" or the "accepting innocent" is a vital overall attitude for...

Hmmm.... I see a pattern emerging in your posts! :)
Fond of the obscure Muppets, eh? Guess I should have known from the screen name!! ;)
Well, THAT could be a whole shtick in itself! What do the OTHER Muppets do while the mains are (like Piggy) hogging the spotlight? Do they hang...
This is a very good concept too. Good "everyman" quality to it. This concept would make a good movie too. You could make it with somebody like Owen Wilson or something. Or if you wanted to, you could swap it from a man to a woman and get somebody like Sandra Bullock. Could be a GREAT...
There you go! Excellent! Good thinking! You see how the idea can stretch across ALL the characters? That's good stuff!
Now lets hope the Muppet folks steal our ideas! :)

Yup...read it. Good stuff. Just fishing for more folks to post their ideas.
As for Muppets Tonight, I think it had a fair shot... except that it was anchored to Aliens In The Family, which may go down as one of the worst Henson offerings ever. AITF dragged Muppets Tonight into the ratings...
