Once again, Amicus, you are completely wrong. As wrong as a human being can be. Wrong with a capital W... just ask your unlicensed, illegal Ernie puppet.
You obviously have no grasp of intellectual property rights and are utterly incapable of speaking about this subject with authority...
I've always said that they could do worse than to simply "start up" the old style Muppet Show again... same format, same theatre venue. It would work just fine. AND it would mesh with the old show so they could package the whole thing to the networks.
Heck, Doctor Who re-started production...
Absolutely correct.
They'd also be very upset if you decided to make a You Tube video starring Kermit doing unacceptable things. THere's not too much they can do about the folks who do that sort of thing with commercially available puppets, but I know that there were some pretty serious...
Actually, it isn't any bigger a problem. It doesn't really matter if he sells at all... he's infringing on IP rights just by making them available. His profits from the activity only modify how much he surrenders to the actual IP owner in resitution.
Though I think you may be right about...
I look for search parameters that are not going to produce a billion results. MUPPET or MUPPETS is like that.
But this guy uses the same descriptors every time, so he's pretty easy to track down. He has a limited number of words he can use to describe the things because there are certain...
That's one of the great popular misconceptions about intellectual property rights. It doesn't matter what this person calls the puppets... they are unlicensed replicas of property owned by MHC and Disney. If this person started producing animated shorts starring "little rodent with red-shorts"...
Dwayne,
You have a fair point about companies not persuing the Muppets license for product , etc. I think that they might figure the license fees would be prohibitive?
I find myself in disagreement about Ford, though. When Jim Henson licensed out the Muppets or the Muppet likenesses, he did...
Okay, now it's just getting downright silly. This joker has had his auctions pulled twice in as many weeks and he's got them listed AGAIN under yet another name! Now he's "theaterofpuppets". So, he's gotta make a NEW seller name every time he gets yanked.
That's some nerve.
Heck, now this...
That's all really good stuff! And I have to say that most games are just replications of other games, so making a Muppet version of a "pokemon" type thing would be interesting.
I'd be a little more interested in taking it to an interactive semi-roleplaying type thing like the original Sam &...
If Ebay decides that he's a chronic offender, they'll ban him from selling. I don't know exactly how they'll go about that, but since he's got to provide a name with a credit card and an email, they probably won't have much trouble in programming their auto-cops to deny him access.
But I...
Well, I guess it's not like you could really mistake what they were.
I am a little vexed that Ebay took a shotgun approach and whacked all the listings. The originals were very good and not infringing at all. Except unless they took umbrage that he had Muppet replica pics IN the originals...
Seems so. Looks like they are onto this guy. I followed a link and the Scooter puppet was gone. I'll have to check the others.
-G
P.S. I checked. Not only are the Muppet listings gone, but so are the originals. Ebay is a harsh mistress, eh?
I guess we can wait and see.
I'm sure Ebay has hundreds and thousands of listings that get reported like this every day. Its just gonna be whether or not they get to them in seven days.
Frankly, I haven't ever seen this person actually sell any of their replicas, and with starting bids...
Wow,
Okay, I'm convinced now. This person is a member of this forum.
After continued discussion of this subject, and the way things have played out on Ebay and here at MC, I am convinced that whoever the person is that is listing these puppets is a member of this forum and has just re-listed...
In the case of this puppet, the closely copied details of its appearance indicate that it is a conscious effort to replicate an existing intellectual property. And the builder/seller doesn't have the license to do so. Even if it's made from sweatshirt fleece and felt, from a hand-drafted...
Yes, but can you BELIEVE the cheek? They listed AGAIN under a different seller name just today.

Friggin insane.

Whoever it is that's making the puppets is doing just-fine work. That's really not the issue, in my view. I've seen better and I've seen worse. It's really immaterial.
It is my position that such a cavalier attitude towards the intellectual property rights and licensing rights of anyone...
