I'll tell you what Jim Henson told me when I asked if I could put the puppets on: "Sorry, we have a blanket policy that no one but us can put on the puppets. It's nothing personal, just our policy."
Now I'll tell you what Frank Oz said when he caught us handling the puppets while everyone...
Here's another quick story to further prove my point...
Mel says when he "created" the voice of Porky Pig that he went and observed real pigs and the "stammer" is supposed to approximate the squealing sound the pigs make.
But this story doesn't make sense because Mel wasn't the first voice...
I'll just comment on this once more and then I'm dropping ths subject. You are free to believe what you want. And I'll add one more thing... Friends of mine knew both men very well and will corroborate what I am saying.
I met both Bob Clampett and Mel Blanc (several times) and they were...
Don't believe everything you read in books. As I said, it makes a more colorful story that way. ;)
Of course, you have no reason to believe me, either. I'll just say that I've known many, many people that worked with Mel and there is quite a bit of "exaggeration" in his autobiography...
This is a phenomenon that I've long observed happening to comic characters, mostly on TV. I'll give you two examples off the top of my head:
Maxwell Smart from "Get Smart". He started out as a bumbler, kind of like Inspector Clouseau, but by the time the series ended, he was a complete...
Not to poke a hole in your admiration, or to take anything away from a very talented actor, but that single credit was contractual. He made a deal with Warners in the 40's. They wouldn't give him any more money, so they gave him sole credit. No one else was allowed to be credited. There are...
I think that's one of those urban legends. (It could even be one of those urban legends that he used to tell himself.) As I've heard it, the truth is, he just didn't like carrots.
They tried all different vegetables, but none of the others had the right crunch sound. So, he would bite the...
I completely agree. I don't like the current Fozzie at all. But then, I think Ernie lost a lot of character after they changed from the one that's in my avatar.
I think I posted this in another thread once, but I asked Jim about the puppets changing looks and his answer was that the...
I would think it would be next to impossible without ripping the whole thing apart and resewing it, which would probably damage the material and make it harder to hide the seams. How else would you get the armature out of the arms, for instance?
:p
Um... a puppet.
:p
P.S. When "Great Muppet Caper" was first released, they had a display up at Universal with the actual puppets of Kermit, Gonzo and Fozzie in a hot air balloon basket. That's one way to display half-a-Fozzie. I had a picture of me standing in front of it. I wish I...
When you guys mentioned the Academy, it just made me think... I believe he is more likely to be recognized by the TV Academy than the Motion Picture Academy.
This, of course, is a complete guess on my part and I could be proven totally wrong. We shall see.
:p
Hey, Vic! The link still works. Sometimes that site is non-responsive. There have been days when I wasn't able to get on it. But I just tried it and it worked fine. You do need to scroll down to November 4, though.
:p
Okay, you folks suggested I continue this, so here's another amusing entry:
Hmm... Now Who Could This Be??
I guess he finally got nervous about the copyright police. Tee hee.
:p
Not trying to be a humbug, but as a writer myself, I'm just injecting a little dose of reality. Writers are typically left off of those memorials, just like they're rarely mentioned in reviews. The actors and directors get all the attention. Did you know it wasn't until 1981 that a writer got...
