    Earl Kress Weblog

Thanks for the plug, Minor Muppetz (honest, folks... he did this on his own!). I'm sure I'll be talking about Muppets on there at some point. :p

Behind the Scenes of "The Muppet Movie"

Thank you very much for the compliments. I'm afraid there are no magic bullets to getting the dream job. Everyone takes a slightly different path. But the best advice I can give is to be the best Graphic Designer (or whatever) you can be. Get a job where you can meet people. Contacts in...

    pining a puppets hand

Yes, T pins are what they were also using on Sesame Street, for instance, to pin Bert's nose on. T pins are very useful. :p

    Hello to all the puppeteers

Steve, You just made me laugh out loud! Thanks! :p

    chicken puppet multi use

Yes, I understand. That is what he meant. But that's the way all single camera film is shot. Let's say it's a two person scene. You shoot a master shot with both people in the frame, then you go back and shoot each actor individually, with the actor off-camera feeding lines to the one...

    chicken puppet multi use

I know this comment is going to sound snarky and mean, and I hope I don't offend, but... What are they teaching you if they haven't taught you that? That's basic film technique, whether it's with puppets or actors. :p

    Carol Spinney a 'Muppeteer'?

The answer to your first question is: both! Voice actors get paid for a four hour call, for which they can do 2 characters and a third one for a 10% bump. If they do a fourth character, they get another whole check, but then they can do a fifth character, too. In on camera, it doesn't work...

    Carol Spinney a 'Muppeteer'?

You're overthinking this. One reason is money. They get two main characters for the price of one. Second, in the beginning of Sesame Street, there weren't alot of Muppeteers, so as minor muppetz pointed out, they all doubled and tripled and quadrupled on characters. That's the way voices are...

    Antron Fleece- Hiding the seams

Hmm... would he happen to be a greenish puppet whose name starts with "N"? Tee hee. :p

    I noticed you're watching too...

I had two different soundtrack recordings of "Never Before, Never Again". One was a vinyl record (anyone besides me remember those?) and the other was a prerecorded cassette. And now I couldn't tell you if either one was the version from the movie, but they were clearly different from each...

Well, um, I can leave you alone... that's almost the same thing. :p

    Fleece questions for Kermit

In the show "Muppets on Puppets" from around 1967 or '68, Jim Henson calls the material Nylon Fleece. It was readily available in the early 70's in a variety of colors. The nice thing about it was that it was stretchy in both directions as opposed to some material that only stretches in one...

Behind the Scenes of "The Muppet Movie"

Hmm, I don't know where you read that, but I did know who they were and what show they were from, so I must have seen it. And at that time, the only way I could have seen it was on regular broadcast television. :p

Behind the Scenes of "The Muppet Movie"

First of all... why does it bother you? Second, about 50 new people a week read it. Third, Phillip asked me to turn it into an article, which I still intend to do. I'm sure when I do that, they will "unsticky" it. :p

Authentic, Fully Licensed, Muppet Replicas Coming!

I really like the side view of the latest one from China (especially after KermieBaby47 moved the corner of his mouth forward). The reason I like it is because it looks like there's a hand in his head and not stuffing. But all of our comments are outdated... just make him look like the...

    script writing program

Sorry to be late to this thread, but I haven't been reading the forum as much lately. The other big Hollywood program is Movie Magic Screenwriter. You can get a free demo at this link. This is the program I use. It has many different script formats built in, and is totally customizable...

Authentic, Fully Licensed, Muppet Replicas Coming!

Gordon, There has been a lot of new Mickey animation in recent years. The TV series "Mickey's House of Mouse", the direct to video "The Three Musketeers" and "Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas", just to name a few. That doesn't mean that new Muppet merchandise will generate new Muppet...

Authentic, Fully Licensed, Muppet Replicas Coming!

I think it looks better than some of the ACTUAL posers they are using. I HATED that picture of Kermit on the inside sleeve of The Muppet Show - Season One. AND, it is still a prototype. :p

After seeing the Sex and Violence pilot...

Oops! I rewatched "The Muppets Valentines Show" last night (it WAS Valentines Day, after all) and I realized my mistake. The actual title of the song is "Love is a Simple Thing", which is an existing song, written in 1952. Sorry about that! :p

    Wanted: Avenue Q on DVD

I saw part of one of the bootleg copies. The first 10 minutes or so, the camera isn't even pointed at the stage! Plus, the recording was so bad, it wouldn't even play back on any of my equipment. My friend (who traded for the copy) got it to play back on something (his computer, I think)...
