All right, when I head home this weekend, I'll borrow my dad's digital camera and take a few photos (it's not quite done yet, but we're darn close). And then I'll see if I can get them posted somehow or other.
Mom called me on my cell phone as I was heading back from my internship. She was...
(leaving the opera)
MN: That Placido Flamingo is such a character, isn't he?
Nora: Yeah, I didn't know it was possible to (yawn) hold a note that long...
MN: Sounds like someone needs to go to bed.
Storyteller: Oh, yeah, she's been yawning since the end of act II.
Nora: So were you.
MN: It's...
(in a box at the opera)
MN: Nice view of the stage. We're not in the nosebleed section for once.
Storyteller: So the oxygen tanks weren't necessary.
Nora: How long will the show go?
MN: A couple of hours. But that's okay; we're not due home until tomorrow afternoon.
Storyteller: I thought they...
Yes, as soon as I figure out how to upload them. And as soon as I can borrow my dad's digital camera for about five seconds (for the men in this family are such photo junkies; when we went to England last spring the cameras were up in front of their faces almost constantly).
Another update: Yesterday I started embroidering the piping and cuffs onto Scooter's jacket, and Mom's going to sew down his hands and work on his shirt. Beaker is partially attached; we need to modify his nose and make his lab coat. Janice still needs to be attached.
MN: (re-reading interview notes) I think this will make a nice contribution to Tumbling Rock magazine. And the Count's right; Chris Cerf was an influence on both the Monotones and the Alphabeats...but that won't stop the two bands from scuffling every now and then.
Nora: So what's on for...
Update, round 2, after three hours and a few pricked fingers:
We now have most of Scooter on the panel. All we need to do is sew down his hands, embroider the cuffs and piping on his jacket, put some stitching on his ears and he'll be done.
I see we've cleaned up most of the pastry...
Who knows? I'd think that'd be more of a question for the Workshop people.
Speaking of fleece, quilt update: We've got all of Richard's name, date and epitaph panels quilted on. Sweetums and Statler are pretty much done, except for some additional thatching on Sweetums, we've got a...
LJ: So Little Chrissy came backstage at one of our concerts and he told me to go and play with my blocks!
BJ: Took all three of us to hold him back.
MN: (scribbling on notepad) "And the relationship between the Monotones and the Alphabeats has, since then, been frigidly cordial at best." Moving...
Jerry: Hey, Count, man, great to see you again! I remember you helped us get 'Four' to the top of the charts!
Richard: Yeah, he helped us write it...'course, he seemed to want to go well past four...
Big Jeffy: We were shooting for a 25-minute long tour de force rock epic...but kids these days...
(in the lobby of the Furry Arms Hotel)
Nora: We're going to go visit Sherlock Hemlock. Are you coming?
MN: Thanks but no thanks. I've gotta hang here until the Monotones get here. But we'll meet up for lunch somewhere later on.
Storyteller: Suit yourself...but I don't think you'll have long...
MN: Actually, Ernie, it's Ms. Storyteller, but that's okay. Let me introduce you to Storyteller Fraggle, one of my two roommates.
Storyteller: (slurps up a bit of soup) Hiya!
Nora: So you're going to interview the Monotones, Erin?
MN: Yeah, but not tonight. It's our time to relax and goof off...
MN: Okay, let's see...a grilled cheese, fresh vegs on the side and to drink, a glass of apple cider with ice.
Nora: I'll take the quiche, and a Dr. Pepper to drink.
Storyteller: Soup of the day, and to drink, tomato juice with a Doozer stick twist.
(gang walks in)
MN: Hi, we're with the Muppet Central party, they should have arrived not too long ago...okay, second floor dining room. Thanks. Upstairs, you guys.
(upstairs, moments later)
MN: Hi, guys, the train just got in a little while ago!
Nora: Is it time to eat yet? I'm famished!
Nora: (looking up from magazine) How far out are we?
MN: (pauses while playing guitar) Don't know, probably no more than an hour.
Storyteller: (snips through a thread while working on quilt) Well, that delay back there was fairly long.
MN: I know, how long does it take to get a broken-down...
(in the buffet/lounge car on the train out of Nelson Square)
Nora: So how was the French presentation?
MN: Pretty good. Stuttered a bit but I did okay.
Nora: So sitting up all night before the computer paid off, eh?
MN: Yeah, in terms of eyestrain and a sore neck. Occupational hazard...
(in the middle of the cake, pie, donut, croissant and eclair-strewn field, MN picks her guitar back up and starts in on a wistful rendition of 'Where Have All the Flowers Gone?')
(or is it 'Flours?')
(note left on the door)
We, Erin Roll (Muppet Newsgirl), Nora Brandon and Storyteller Fraggle, will be joining you by alternate transportation, due to assorted on-campus goings-on (read: homework, and a huge presentation for French class), which caused MN to be delayed.
(attached to note is...
Oooh, chocolate croissants, just like the ones we bought in Paris...(turns and calls over her shoulder into another room) Amanda, would you mind reining in your uncle before we're all mired in pastry fragments? That'd be the icing on the cake.
(still singing and playing guitar; has switched...
