MN: Fruit and veg trays, check. Cheese and bread trays, check. Two goodly-sized cookies and cream cakes, check. Punch, check. Gelato and ice cream of assorted flavors, check. Extra-large version of Twister, check. One pin-the-tail on-the-World's Oldest Fraggle...
If only he saw pop culture in general today, period. I just read an article about how younger kids (ages approx 7-12) are now doing things normally reserved for teenagers, like being obsessed with fads, wanting to wear "trendy" clothes and carry cell phones and have relationships with the...
MN: I'm back, is anyone else here?
Storyteller: I'm here, Nora's still not back.
MN: I heard traffic was kind of nutsy today, so she might be a tad delayed.
Storyteller: How was New York?
MN: Crowded, but civilized and genial, as usual. On Black Friday, New York is a lot saner than any given...
MN: That was a good feed we had at my family's place.
Storyteller: Same here; my aunt Geri's radish casserole was to die for.
MN: I'll bet. Anything notable happen? Any fights over who got the last piece of Nirvana tree bark pie?
Storyteller: At least two.
MN: My mother had a rule in place for...
When Richard played Miss Piggy, she had a rather throaty voice, with hints of a British accent, the way I hear it.
But when you've got a guy playing a lady pig, it'll sound funny either way.
By the way: Janice is done; we're ready to close off the quilt edge, do the final quilting and some...
Thanks, you guys, thanks for all the comments.
It's looking more and more like we won't have it out in the mail until after Thanksgiving (due to time and assorted other projects - read: huge final papers for school) but we're getting there. Beaker and Janice both have more hair on their heads...
MN: (on phone) Uh-huh...ooh, I like it! Okay, sounds great. Later, Red, and annoy Gobo for me next time you see him. (hangs up) All right, Nora, you'll be sharing your birthday splash with Beth.
Nora: (dully) Cool, sounds cool.
MN: You don't sound too enthusiastic.
Nora: My snob of a brother...
The Far Side? No, it was a single-panel comic drawn by Gary Larson many years ago. It was all absurdist humor, and funny as all get out. Some of those cartoons I can't read without cracking up.
MN: Hey, did I hear something about us having a pest problem in here?
Nora: Some guy or girl who could have given Oscar a run for his money, in terms of general grouchiness.
Storyteller: True. But let's talk about other, more positive things...like the fact that Nora has a birthday on Friday...
You know, that entire sketch reminds me of The Far Side.
It was the one entitled: "Tension builds on the Lewis and Clark expedition."
The one in front is energetically singing 'The Happy Wanderer,' and the one in the back is thinking, "God, I hate him."
Maybe I could send in a photo of myself for you, Vic. I'd have to sort through a few to find one good enough to post on the web, though.
I'll get back to you on that, mate.
Storyteller: So you finally got around to posting a photo of Richard's quilt, did you?
MN: Yeah, in between my ten billion other time-consuming projects, Mom and I asked Dad to bring out his Nikon and snap a few shots while we held up the quilt. I also took a few myself.
Nora: Wow...the RHLC's...

RHLC members: Here's the photo, like I promised. Hope you like it!
Rest of the forum: Guys, for the last two months, my mother and I have been working on a new AIDS quilt panel for Richard. It's mostly done; Beaker and Janice still need to be...
MN: (head jerks up from over computer) Princeton? Holy red brick and ivy, Batman!
Nora: Wow, Lisa's been invited into the big ten! Cool...but a little daunting, sounds like.
MN: Well, all depends on whether or not she applies. I was invited to attend some tony women's college but I didn't apply...
Rowlf and Sam doing the Mikado. Man, that was a riot.
In fact, in the complete anthology of Gilbert and Sullivan's librettos, in the introduction to the Mikado, the author mentioned the Muppets doing '*** Willow,' among the other references to the Mikado in pop culture (and the author loved...
