I could be mistaken about which version is on the Australian disc - according to my notes it's probably the US one, but it's also possible that I haven't actually checked the LP yet...
Yes, they are similar, but not identical. In particular, the version on the movie starts somewhat differently.
Which is the strongest evidence that it's the same vocal recording re-edited to fit (almost...) the new music.
Ah, the source of the confusion :-) The arrangement of the song on the 97-minute movie is not the same as the arrangement used on either US or UK soundtrack albums... ;-)
Both versions of the song have appeared on US releases of the album - I have two different cassette releases. The alternate version also appeared on a Canadian issue of the album, and the original soundtrack of the film (the 97-minute cut). The latter is probably the reason why it appeared on...
They didn't. The scene was removed around 1988, most probably for a TV airing. This version of the show is the one that's been aired ever since, and is the only version released on any form of home video. It was further edited for the US VHS/DVD releases as several of the songs could not be...

17 Nov 78 Raquel Welch
24 Nov 78 Alice Cooper
1 Dec 78 Helen Reddy
8 Dec 78 James Coco
15 Dec 78 Marisa Berenson
22 Dec 78 Kris Kristofferson & Rita Coolidge
25 Dec 78 Danny Kaye
29 Dec 78 Cheryl Ladd
5 Jan 79 Harry Belafonte...

The music rights for the songs used in Season Two have...
Previous releases have no bearing on what - if anything - has to be cut this time around. It's a different company doing the release, so new contracts have to be negotiated.
TV broadcasts have no bearing on it either - there's a blanket license in place which allows the broadcasters to use...
Correct. The movie as presented on the current crop of DVDs is the complete film, uncut.
There is however another *edit* of the film which runs to about 97 minutes and includes some extra material, including some shots in the bar scene - this was shown in UK cinemas in 1979 and subsequently...
Just a hint: if you're planning to commit an act of copyright violation, it's probably not a good idea to publically announce your intentions, and particularly not on a forum which the copyright holder is known to read...
