No one can say the exact date of the anniversary, because The Muppet Show was syndicated to different stations across the country -- which means that they could air it any time during the week that they wanted.
The first Muppet Show was made available the first full week of October 1976, from...
Foofoocakes: The Great Gonzo, played by Dave Geolz, was initially talking about the "operation." When it came time for the actual sawing, while Cliff was on the table, Digit popped up. Digit is a robot-like character created for The Jim Henson Hour and also performed by Geolz.
Kim: I'm pretty...
Re: "I wouldn't guess he had any wishes for his characters."
Unlike Jim, Richard was seriously ill for a long time and knew it. While I've never heard that he specifically wished his characters to continue, he had plenty of time to protest the idea, and so far as we all know he didn't...

"Superbit" editions of Dark Crystal and Labyrinth are due out on DVD March 4...the same day as two more volumes of TMS, courtesy of Columbia TriStar.
Sounds cool -- but does anyone have any idea what...
Just FYI -- according to DVD Talk at this link:

Columbia TriStar has finally announced the release of the next set of Muppet Show DVDs, due out Mar. 4. They continue to follow the Time-Life chronology, as Vol. 3 is the Harry Belafonte et al. disc...
Scott: The "Lime in the Coconut" number that you described was in the Kenny Rogers episode. It was also featured in several of the compilation videos.
Camilla: The Muppet Show was in the late '70s, and "Call Me Al" wasn't recorded till the mid-80's.
Gorgon Heap: Wow. A fan of the...
Favorite Richard memories, in addition to what's already been mentioned:
1) Anything involving Beaker.
2) The fact that he would perform the characters--ANYBODY'S characters--for children and other visitors to the studio during filming breaks, as chronicled in "Of Muppets and Men."
3) The...
Check the music credits at the end of TMS. The same band -- the "other" Ray Charles and his orchestra, I believe -- played all the songs in every show, which covered an astonishing range of style and genre. They are the TRUE Electric Mayhem. :)
We're so spoiled. Last year, the new menu was awesome and astonishing. Now if we don't get a new one every WEEK, we complain! LOL! :p Fortunately, Jamie's been keeping up...wonder when he finds time to work??
Mr. Oz: "Labyrinth" was a fantasy movie done in the mid-80's by Jim Henson. The Fierys were bizarre creatures that could take their heads (and hands and legs, etc.) off. My avatar is a picture of a Fiery.
There are pictures from Labyrinth in the book "Jim Henson: the Works," and if you type...
*gasp*
The Doozers MOVE...without you even running your mouse over them...but then there's all that other animation...

I am SO glad I decided to check the front page first.
Oooh. That's what I love about the Internet--you're always learning something new! :) Thanks, Phil. I wonder if anyone has a copy of these segments on tape?
Actually, it depends on how you look at it. Cliff's Nightmare (originally aired Jan. 11, 1990) was not his last project. MuppetVision 3D was still being worked on when Jim passed away, and Richard (as I recall) didn't even do any puppeteering in that -- he just voiced the animatronic Statler and...
Great job, Jamie! I just got back to CA from Christmas break. I went to look at the New Year's menu 'cause my parent's computer didn't display it right. And lo and behold--a NEW great menu! You said no new menus till MC's anniversary later this month, but I guess you had a few tricks up your...
Frackle, of course the closing of the NY workshop is a terrible thing. I just chose to focus on things that made me happy in the past year rather than the things that angered me that I can do nothing about. I figured saying "rotten news behind the scenes" was enough to cover just about...
