Sam and Friends Book Read our review of the long-awaited book, "Sam and Friends - The Story of Jim Henson's First Television Show" by Muppet Historian Craig Shemin.
Great work so far; I especially liked the way you adapted that infamous Avenue Q scene with Kate/Trekkie Monster into an innocent, thoughtful conversation between Prairie Dawn and Ernie. Keep it coming when you can!
The Muppet in that clip was Oscar; Bob had disguised himself as a grouch (calling himself "Bob the Blob") to ruin Oscar's TV show by playing beautiful music. Of course, the all-grouch audience hated the act...:grouchy:
Oh, the signs in the new clip are real (as some Seattle natives have confirmed when it was up before). But that CGI grab-and-zoom effect? Fake as a $3 bill printed on bright-orange construction paper; if the intended lesson was "finding the alphabet in real-life text", then Sesame Workshop...
Even if Sesame Street had not dedicated two seasons to "Healthy Habits for Life", no kid today would've gotten away with a response like that; the producers would've either assumed that somebody was being a smart aleck, or called a social worker instead of choosing the kid for casting. Man, I...
Of course, what they didn't say was: "...because people bred her that way." :insatiable: To bring this thread back on topic, though: I read on another fansite that when the BBC started showing Sesame Street material, one preschool teacher had the class view that "Hey, cow" film. Afterwards...
Sponsorship blooper from Episode 1092
This has already been posted to the Muppet Wiki, but--did you notice that Episode 1092 ends with someone announcing the previous day's sponsors? The cast must have been losing track of time by then...:)
I have an old Flash Video clip of the B segment, but the sound and picture quality aren't very good. Hopefully I'll be able to clean it up and convert it to a format you can use; which program do you normally use to watch video files?
My Bottom Five list...
I agree with the "Fruit/Veggie Dance" and "It's Time to Play" nominations 100% and for most of the same reasons. Here are my own nominations for worst non-Muppet material:
5. Any celebrity spot which has the featured people just counting or saying the alphabet--with...
I can get you a copy of that clip by itself, for free. Just PM me your e-mail address, and let me know whether you need it as a Windows Media clip (WMV) or QuickTime (MOV). Thanks!
To be honest, both older and current versions of Sesame Street have their flaws: The classic version was a bit too violent and scary, and repeated lesson material a little too often at first. The sheer number of characters must have been too much for average toddlers to keep track of as well...
It's not released in any commercial format yet; the sketch is part of an early 70s episode (#158), which ran as part of Sesame Street Unpaved back when Noggin still did that. If you can get hold of that episode, the clip is yours! :)
Love the way Grandma said "Well, this IS a soap opera!" before suggesting the kids use soap...little cracks in the fourth wall added to the parody's over-the-top humor.
Would you be interested in trading another episode(s) for 2614? I currently have 37 "regular" episodes (plus a few specials and previews) available in either mp4 or Windows Media format; please send me a private message if you've got any requests, and I'll let you know if I have them. Thanks!
I recently traded a copy of #1316 to one of my online friends, explaining that it was the only part of Maria's trip that made it into Sesame Street Unpaved. He was curious about the rest of the story, and wondered whether anybody here has the other Puerto Rico episodes from the time they...
If the new TEC is as well-written, educational, and funny as Between the Lions--then I'd love to watch it, even with no kids at home. Between the Lions is living proof that a kids' show can focus on one setting and have only a few major characters...without becoming boring and unwatchable...
Why do I get a sense of dèjá vu here? PBS has recently approved two other shows focused on super-powered characters who teach reading; the only major difference I can see so far, is that the new TEC will be a live-action show. Let's hope I'm wrong about that...*sigh*
