Actually, Sesame Street English was meant to be distributed outside the US--to teach viewers learning English as a second language. So no, it won't replace any American kidvid for grammar lessons... :-)
And speaking of Sesame Street in Norwegian...
One of my subscriptions (a user named "barndomsminner", which means "childhood memories") has a TON of clips from Norwegian kids' shows. About a third of those are from Sesame Street; he (she?) seems especially fond of dubbed Bert and Ernie clips...
It's in Norwegian, but...
Here's a Sesame Street cartoon that I haven't seen since preschool, with kids trying to count 1-10 and back. Some weird things occasionally pop up in place of the numbers, leading to "That's not a [number here], that's [whatever it is]!" protests from the kids. Now...
That Pinball Count #10 was actually in Norwegian, but any Scandinavian Sesame material is likely to end up on my favorites list just the same--many thanks!
True enough, but "Journey to Ernie" was pretty predictable; it had no real plot (big mistake #1), and it kept Ernie separated from Bert (big mistake #2). The "Great Adventures" clip in the preview felt more like the Bert/Ernie sketches I saw as a kid, so it might have more staying power.
A reporter friend of mine in Honolulu said that Buffy Sainte-Marie signed some releases for the Hawaiian episodes late last year, so Sesame Workshop may be putting those on a separate DVD set. If the trip DVDs do get released, you can bet I'll be asking my folks to order it!
The odds of "Great Adventures" replacing EW are pretty slim, I'll admit. Still, I'm happy to hear that Bert and Ernie are making a comeback together (and acting like their old selves, too). I have a hard time imagining Sesame Street without those characters; even the test shows from mid-1969...
Absolutely; the "1-2-3-4" parody looked cute onscreen, but the lyrics are deadly dull. If Sesame Workshop wants songs that are as memorable and educational as "Furry Happy Monsters", they could use help from someone who makes a living writing decent parodies...and someone who doesn't mind doing...
Loved the way Colbert and Cookie Monster reacted to each other, generally speaking; it's a shame nobody on YouTube's posted that clip in full, although that might be risky given Viacom's attitude.
I prefer the old "soundalike group" parodies too, but the way Sesame Workshop is strapped for funds nowadays, I suspect it might cost less to have the celebrity volunteer a few minutes, instead of building new AMs and sets for each song.
And how many kids (without family members in a marching band, at least) are gonna use that word in ordinary conversations? I love the general idea of a "Word on the Street" feature, but some of the word choices are a bit bizarre for a preschoolers' show.
It still scares me a little bit, even though other "S looks like a snake" material never frightened me that much as a girl. Must've been the way that snake doesn't reveal himself until the last minute...
Season 39 looks cool so far, judging by the descriptions and previews. I'm a bit disappointed that they passed up Mumford (the established magician, who's even done a few mathematical tricks) in favor of a human character--but you can't have everything. :) At least Sesame Street is getting...
If only Sesame Workshop accepted scripts from "outsiders"...dang, you did a terrific job! Characters that kids AND adults could relate to, a reasonably balanced mix of clips from the show's history, a believable plot: the SW writers could take a few lessons from your work.
If I had a decent singing voice, and an all-instrumental version of the Sesame Street theme on this PC...I'd create an anti-Viacom protest clip of my own. (Yes, I wrote a parody dealing with the Noggin-related account suspensions; each verse ended with "Can you tell how mad we get/When we lose...
More proof that the Count cares about people, not just numbers: Sometime during the 80s or 90s, I watched an episode that had Maria suffering from a severe headache. The Count offered her several bits of (legitimate) advice on how to get rid of it, which she followed at first. A few minutes...
Even if Sesame Workshop were able and willing to produce a full-season boxed set (something I'd do almost anything to see!)...how many fans could afford buying 40+ DVD's? I'm assuming three episodes to a disc here, with no bonus material; there'd be no point to offering extras if each episode...
Bravo! Bravo! *throws roses at SuperScrooter's feet* This is the kind of show that Sesame Workshop ought to perform live for the kids; I'd bet that only a few diehard fans would miss Elmo. I do wonder why Mr. Johnson disappeared from the "Fuzzy and Blue" scene (just standing on stage doing...
