Very true, as a child I knew who Jim Henson was the way most kids did, but I also always knew about Frank Oz. When I was watching the documentaries as a kid my Mom pointed out that Frank Oz was Jim's close friend. They were a familiar team in popular culture.

I think the show's style of humor just evolved. The first season was a lot of the standard one note jokes, sort of traditional Vaudeville/Variety show comedy. As the show moved on the humor came more from the individual characters' personality quirks and a sort of overall gentle, rebellious...

Only difference is one of those people was actually funny. I'll let you decide which. ;)
