    Bear Town

Oh boy... Um, I know this is a stressful week for you, so I'm hoping the "851 days" counter on the cover page of your site is just a sarcasting venting of your frustration. Is that true?

    Confessing Crushes...

Yeah, well... I've crushed on Janice, Penny (from the cartoon Inspector Gadget), and Lady Aberlin (from Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood). Thankfully now I have a girlfriend who keeps me from crushing on TV characters... as much.

    Strengthening endurance when performing puppets

I've got to the point where my arm doesn't bother me so much anymore. As I've developed my manipulating abilities I've become aware of the many little intricate parts that go into making a character real (keeping it vertical, eye contact, breathing, gestures, moving the head around smoothly...

    Homemade Grover at eBay

It looks like a good attempt at Grover. Does anyone know how long this guy's been making puppets? I used to use coatwire all the time, until I fell in love with welding rods. Coat wire always chipped more for me in my experience. Do you guys paint it or something? Does that work better?

    Arm Rods

Sorry I didn't mention it earlier! :o I knew you already had a method. Scary Larry's doing all right, though he is now recovering from wrist surgery... His copyright info FINALLY came back in the mail today. Otherwise, he is kind of lonely because all my other characters don't really have...

    Arm Rods

Hey! I just put together my own method of removeable rods, encouraged by what someone on here said about alligator clips. It's a three step process. 1. Get some name tag clips and remove the clear snap-strap so that all you have left is the clip. The should be two holes on at least one of...

    Operating the Big Bird puppet

Also you'll notice that Big Bird has a lot more close-ups in JTE that cut off his legs (sounds painful...). It makes it that much easier to put some more life into his wings.

Eyebrows that move - any ideas?

You know you're in bad shape when the thriftstore has a more hi-definition TV than you :( I had never been able to see the fabric wrinkle up! That's awesome, and it would seem to make things a whole lot easier.

    HELLO! (from new member)

Welcome aboard! Nice work you've done. It's nice to see quality work by a fellow Jo-Ann Fabrics die-hard. I haven't had the resources to allow me to work with antron fleece (which looks really fun to work with), so it's a welcome encouragement to see someone else producing nice work with...

Eyebrows that move - any ideas?

Yeah, it moves up too (note the smiley :( ). It seems as though using monofilament in the middle would be the easiest solution; however I haven't seen any indention above or below the brow when it's being pulled that would indicate it. That's why I think it must pivot on both ends. Maybe...

Eyebrows that move - any ideas?

I think the secret to Bert's eyebrows (or "eyebrow" as it were) isn't in the middle of the brow, but at the two edges. When his brow goes up, there's no trace of anything sticking out in the middle.

    Mouthplate Material

I just found great substitute for gasket rubber. I haven't tried it out yet, but I saw some at the local Value Village and it reacts like gasket rubber: it's the rubber lining used around the base perimeter of rooms to (I think) prevent the carpet edges from tearing up. The stuff comes in...

Doing gravelly voices for a long time; how?

Frank Oz admitted to this in the "An Evening with Jim Henson and Frank Oz" video between 9I believe) performing Cookie and Animal.

Doing gravelly voices for a long time; how?

    4. Soak your hair and hang your head out the window on a cold day... 3. Trade vocal chords with Louis Armstrong......... Actually, my star character Scary Larry has a gravelly voice, which sometime switches into just a tweaked version of my own. He only tends to by gravelly in the lower...
