    Puppets

I've peen building puppets for 8 years now and all I know about building them is that I know very little. Everytime I make a puppet, I make detailed patterns and sketches thinking that documenting the creation of this puppet will make my next endeavor at building a piece of cake. But every...

Mouth Plates: Paper or plastic or what?

    Ronald Reagan dies at 93

My family took a trip to California and stopped at the Reagan Library to pay respects. At his graveside I told him I'll always remember him as MY President (cause I was born in the 1980s). And I'm very proud of that. One thing that really touched me was something the guard by his tomb...

Mouth Plates: Paper or plastic or what?

Gasket rubber comes in 12" X 12" sheets and you can find it in the plumbing section at Lowes (if you look REALLY hard -- it seems to enjoy hiding from its seekers...). Oh, and it's dark red.

    I just need a little pick-me-up...

Thanks for the encouragement. I thought this was pretty much a neurological disorder, but I've found that it's a hereditery chemical inbalance, so I'm looking into getting some good medication. I've only reached depression twice, and it seems to come after long bouts of my anxiety (which is...

    I just need a little pick-me-up...

He guys, There's a big part of my life that most people in my real life (whatever that means...) know about and I want to share with you, and wonder if any of you have the same problem. It all started when I got some genes from my mom -- I have a big anxiety disorder that has lately led me...

    How much to buy,,,

If you're just making hand and rod puppets like Kermit, then you'll need between a yard and 2 feet of fleece. I'd aviod the anti-pill fleece -- the fibers are too short to cover any seams. If you're going to try foam contsruction for sheet foam, you'll need about 1 1/2 yards for each puppet...

    Happy BIG 60 to Frank!

May 25, 1944 -- one of the greatest puppeteers to ever walk the globe was born. Now, after an illustrious puppetry, acting, and filming career, our admired Mr. Oz is turning 60 years old! So in return for his many blessings -- which include bringing life to Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, and...

How did Pepe become so popular?

My point was that Pepe is as popular to the "adult" (if we can call ourselves that ;) ) Muppet world what Elmo is to the "kids'" SS world. It's still a workable theory. Anyway, I'd just like to clarify that both Kevin Clash and Bill Baretta are wonderful performers -- it's no wonder they've...

What sketches scared you as a kid?

I don't think I was ever terrified of a skit, but I was a little afraid of the Bridgekeeper in the cartoons in which the guy would try to get across the bridge with a shopping bag, but couldn't go until the Bridgekeeper had inspected all te shapes in the bag. He seemed really mean and evil...

How did Pepe become so popular?

Yeah, and, of course, the spirit of the Muppets is to upstage each other, and that's great to a point; but sometimes it gets out of hand. That's when Kermit usually steps in and organizes everything, but I think even he is getting played down lately (i.e. supporting character in the MFS)...

How did Pepe become so popular?

Well, do they make as much Muppet merchandise as they do SS merchandise? SS is generally more popular than the Muppets in the first place so of course there's not going to be as much Pepe as there is Elmo. I'm really making a percentage comparison: Elmo is getting more publicity than the...

    Bear Town

Woo-hoo! That's awesome, even just the rough cut. Tumbles looks great. I think staging the puppets in a fairly immobile shot (sitting on the couch) puts more focus on the quality of the puppetry -- I'm working on a filmette that involves quite a bit of moving around (with live hands puppets)...

How did Pepe become so popular?

Pepe is becoming (if he's not already) the Elmo of the original Muppets. Kids who get hooked on the Muppets these days will get hooked on Pepe and never have a clue as to who Rowlf, Scooter, or the Electric Mayhem were; much like kids watching SS don't have a clue who Prarie Dawn, Bert, or Fat...
