I always see Janice and Floyd as too hip for conventional marriage, but that doesn't mean they're swingers. I'm sorry if a faithful relationship isn't mature enough for this show's writers. :p
Honestly, it feels like this show is being written by the laugh track of Saved by the Bell; the one...
Agreed. Yes, the EM were hippies, but they were also Muppets. They don't sink to that level of human frailty (which is something I've already said this show is getting wrong).
Now, that is not saying they're for children and that is not saying they have to be all perfect. I'll repeat what...
I was having a conversation about this the other day. It wasn't about the Muppets, but it was about how all of pop culture is being reduced to short hand Family Guy-esque references, rather than nuanced and developed character traits.
Um, well, it's not a series, it's a special (you'll get that joke once you watch it ;)).
You couldn't be more right. :)
I admit I would like to see this particular Kermit taken down a few pegs like that, hehe.
This reminds me of the Man of Steel debate. Some fans were inspired by seeing an angsty and uncertain Superman. Others felt like their hero's spirit had been utterly gutted and replaced with someone else's.
That's an interesting observation! Well the thing, Piggy never really actively works with anyone, let alone Kermit. She's a tough cookie and can handle things by herself and clearly prefers it that way. Kermit's contribution is that he knows to stay out of her way, lol.
I don't know, starting...
Remember when Harry Belafonte was told "a certain kind of anger never could work in the Muppet world, no matter what kind of mischief you were reacting to, because the characters are incapable of acting in a truly immoral way"?
Someone needs to explain that to these writers.
Bingo. And I've one too many many fans online (not here) cheering on this Kermit because "Oh Piggy is such a *****." That's not what Kermit or Piggy have ever been about. But I don't blame those fans for thinking that with the way these characters are being portrayed. Maybe it is more modern...
Well you know what the problem is, Floyd's thing on Muppet Show was that he was walking complaining to Kermit about how un-hip the show could be. But now with this new show, it's Kermit who acts like he doesn't want to be there.
Perhaps you're right, I've just met far too many artsy types lately who revel in that stereotype a little too much out of some misguided political loyalty.
That would be a shame, if the writers instantly connect a southern accent with questionable intelligence. That was never the point of the character. But I imagine that's a stereotype many Hollywood writers love nowadays.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
There's a difference between character development and just plain erasing the character, drawing a new one in its place, and then insisting it's the same guy.
You saw it in Muppets Take Manhattan. Not with a celebrity, but still a female "rival." :)
Well after this, they'd probably have to turn the tables and have a guest star actually deserve Piggy's scorn, lol.
I've encountered some like that, but I wouldn't say it's half or even most, and doesn't seem to represent the fans here who've had problems with the show. That's a bit too easy an explanation.
Oh God, yes. I remember trying to share my concerns with my parents and just being met with over the top scoldings. They were so terrified of my not doing well. Mind you, I never gave them any reason to be. :p
If you can't see yourself doing education long term, then maybe spending the money...
I literally could have written this post myself, I completely feel your pain! Back then all I could think of was the next recording, I wasn't careful enough. I still have one 80s recording which I'm very careful with.
One good thing, my friends know of my frustration and have donated their own...
