Of the 4 Sesame Street Live shows I saw in person, this one was probably my favorite (although it came to the Wilkes-Barre area about a year after it debuted nationally). Boy did the memories come back hearing that familiar variation of the theme again; you were certainly pumped when the lights...
The music is defintely the high point here; every single song hits the mark, with 1-2-3 is Ichi Ni San (I guess the spelling's thus) being my favorite. While I personally find it the weakest classic Sesame era special (the same problem that I think plagues China--that the entire core cast...
Super Grover's computer sketch reduced me to hysterics more than any other. Just the sheer ludicrosity of our hero running around in circles screaming at the top of his lungs, and then hopping up and down yelling "Wubba wubba" was enough to keep me laughing for hours afterwards (and imitating...
It's definitely one of the better letter sketches. Although, I recall some times during the 80s they'd abruptly cut to the next sketch at M for whatever reason.
Unless of course one of us happens to have half a billion dollars lying around to buy the whole shebang themselves and solve the whole problem for posterity.
Somewhere in the deepest recesses of the attic I just may still have a tape containing an episode from probably Season 18 of Sesame (I recall there was a wintery puppet sequence and Pinball #8, that's about it), followed by an airing of Gunge the Great and Glorious (also a Shirt Tales eipsode...
Anyone here ever wonder what the cavern Gobo found actually was used for if not as the resting place for the Great Bell? Given that someone bothered to put a handle on the door, there had to be some use in the distant past (as in three days ago); storage perhaps for emergency food rations?
Further, I have to wonder why the Sleezes chose that approach to the situation when simply yelling at our heroes to stop what they were doing would probably have been just as effective, and they could have thus forced everyone off the property--perhaps calling the cops on them to ensure they...
-"Uh, there was this sailor who was so fat..."
"HOW FAT WAS HE!"
"He was so fat that...that everyone loved him, and there was nothing funny about him at all."
-"We're going to catch the thieves red-handed."
"What color are their hands now?"
-"What are you doing here?"
"A very...
As has been noted, it can be hard to narrow it down to 10, but to give it a whirl:
1. the Falling Baker Series, of which #9 stands out the most. I would love it if someone released transcripts of the pitch session where they developed the concept; I'm sure most of us would love to know how...
Remind me, was it Sonny or Pat Playjacks who appeared in a series of street scenes around 1986-87 repeatedly making Maria solve puzzles for no apparent reason and then offering as prizes objects she already owned?
Would anyone know, was the countdowns at the beginnings of the clips aired on this segment taken from the actual masters of the films in question, or were they added from another source? And more broadly, what criteria do you suppose went into choosing which material would get the SPP treatment?
Just about any script could be a complete disaster. Then again, it could also be the one for the ages. It's all in the execution.
Certainly this could take years to come to any sort of fruition. But as long as they do it right, better late than never. We'll have to just wait and see.
