I love love love LOVE this sketch! :flirt: I heard the real "Hip To Be Square" song in the grocery store the other day, and I immediately sought to find the SS parody of it on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oe3Hh8nvn4k). It brought back so many memories of how much I love this song! So, am I alone in my love for "Square"?

Oh, it's definitely still hip to be a square!:super:
I remember that song very well- still lots of fun to watch. And the Huey Lewis and the News song is pretty fun too.
Sesame Street has always been pretty much on the forefront of the current new "hip" thing and putting its own brand on it.

This song does appear in the DVD Rock & Roll! and I think also Guess That Shape and Color.

It's definitely a well-done piece. I recall they reworked it for Bert in one of the Live shows in the late 80s.

Is this the only time a Sesame Street Parody song used the real tune instead of a Sound-a-like (Letter B, Born to Add, etc)

I suspect it was, until celebrities started parodying their own material "live" in the last few seasons; those versions also used the original tunes instead of sound-alikes.
