There's a line in the song "Sweet Victory" (by David Glen Eisley) that says "The games will begin", but I always thought it was "The daydream begins" until I saw the captions of the SpongeBob episode that the song was in.

I had an epic one as a kid... apparently, I misheard just about the entire first verse of "Camptown Races"...

Correct: "De Camptown ladies sing dis song, do-dah, do-dah/De Camptown racetrack five mile long, oh de-do-dah-day/Gwine ta run all night, gwine ta run all day/I bet my money on de bobtail nag, somebody bet on de bay"
Misheard: "Downtown ladies sing this song, do-da, do-da/Downtown ladies sing this song, oh-do-da-day/Gonna run all night, gonna run all day/I put my money on the bobtail ding, somebody bet on the bay"

I've been on an Elton John listening kick lately. The "Tiny Dancer" mix-up lyrics are quite well known.
Correct: "Hold me closer, Tiny Dancer."
Misheard: "Hold me closer, Tony Danza."

And a few I had as a kid:
  • "Bennie and the Jets."
Correct: "Oh Candy and Ronnie, have you seen them yet?"
Misheard: "Oh Candy and Ronnie, have a cigarette!"
  • "Little Jeannie"
Correct: "And you take it where it strikes..."
Misheard: "And you take it well in strides..."
  • "Sacrifice"
Correct: "Mutual misunderstanding after the fact..."
Misheard: "We tripped down the staircase after the fact..." (Don't ask.)
  • "Can You Feel the Love Tonight?"
Correct: "Can you feel the love tonight, how it's laid to rest?"
Misheard: "Can you feel the love tonight? I was laid to rest." (Again...don't ask.)

I thought the song was, "Backfield Emotion", but it turns out it's "Backfield In Motion".

When I first heard the Sesame Street theme song, I thought it sounded like this.

Correct Lyrics: Can you tell me how to get, how to get to Sesame Street?
Misheard Lyrics: Can you Telly how to get, how to get to Sesame Street?

The same goes with "The Batty Bat".

Correct Lyrics: One two three, spread out the cape.
Misheard Lyrics: One two three, spread out the cake.

And "Hey! A Movie!".

Correct Lyrics: Hey! A Movie!
Misheard Lyrics: Hey, We're Moving!

Okay, here's a rather embarrassing one...

You know how whenever we somehow get onto the discussion of dirty pop songs from the 90s and 2000s, I always mention songs we'd hear on the school bus almost everyday, including one that contained a line, "Even when you lick my boob, I'm crazy over you"... well, I just learned that that actually wasn't what the line said at all... apparently, it was, "Even when I'm with my boo, you know I'm crazy over you."

Whatever that means.

That's most likely a pet name.

Correct lyric: "Heigh ho, heigh ho/it's off from work we go!"
Misheard lyric: "Heigh ho, heigh ho/it's off to work we go!"

The Muppet Show Theme:

Another one for me was Timon and Pumbaa's hula song from THE LION KING . . . I always thought Pumbaa was saying, "YUM-YUM-YUM!" to play up Timon's remarks about his deliciousness, but apparently he was saying, "YUP-YUP-YUP!"

Took me awhile to hear the correct lyrics for Dire Straits' "Money for Nothing."

"We got to move these refrigerators..."

"We got the movies..... Refrigerators."
