The Muppets Wizard of Oz cast list

Updated: October 8, 2004

The human cast of "The Muppets Wizard of Oz" was announced last month and Muppet Central has received an updated cast list of the Muppet characters and performers in the film.

Since the movie is currently in the beginning production stages, it is possible that there may be some character changes and additions before the telefilm airs late next Spring on "The Wonderful World of Disney".

Dave Goelz - Gonzo the Great as Tin Thing, Dr. Bunsen Honeydew, Waldorf, Zoot

Eric Jacobson - Fozzie Bear as the Lion, Miss Piggy as the Wicked Witch of the East, the Wicked Witch of the West, the Good Witch of the North and Glinda, the Good Witch of the South, Animal, Sam Eagle

Various Performers - Munchkin Rats, Flying Monkeys, Group of Penguins, Muppet Whatnots and Cool Muppet Patrons

These characters are currently "omitted" from speaking roles in the script - Rowlf, Lew Zealand, Mulch, Crazy Harry, Aretha, Calico Jack, Blackdog, Crasher, Blind Pew, Swedish Chef, Bobo the Bear

Ashanti Douglas - Dorothy Gale

Queen Latifah - Aunt Em

David Alan Grier - Uncle Henry

Dan Payne - Weatherman

Kirk R. Thatcher - Director

Veteran Muppeteer Jerry Nelson is not performing in this film as his classic Muppet characters have recently been recast. Reportedly, Kevin Clash is not performing due to conflicts with his Sesame Street taping schedule. Kevin's characters will likely be looped in post-production.

Sources have confirmed that there is a "nod" to Frank Oz in the script. Hopefully this little tribute will make it into the final telefilm.
