I don't know why they called it Attack of the Clones. The Clones were good guys in the movie, and they didn't really attack anyone. One of the five worst movies I've ever seen.

I hope the next Muppet film is good. Treasure Island and From Space was completely watchable, but geez, man, just watch The Great Muppet Caper. The script is just so endlessly clever and fun. I catch something new everytime I watch it. The new stuff just isn't like that.

Animal's drumming in the video, though, was quite nice.

Chris--

Yeah, I kinda liked Treasure Island. I even bought the soundtrack.

I hated From Space because it squandered the mystery of Gonzo.:frown: Plus, it came out in the same summer as Phantom Menace, and it shoulda been a wild send-up of all things sci-fi. Instead, it was a weak kinda espionage movie. Blech!

Of course, I'd love to love the new Muppet film, but I wouldn't bet my money on it being good.

Even after seeing the film, I still don't think of Gonzo as an alien. That's a bit easy, isn't it? He's still the *WHATEVER* printed across his "cabin" in The Great Muppet Caper to me. Alien. Silliness.

Chris--

What I also:mad: HATE :mad:is the implication that the sweet song of yearning "I'm going to go back there someday" from the Muppet Movie was a foreshadowing of Gonzo being a space alien.

If only we could assemble the people who wrote the MOVIE and the SONG and ask them if that were true.

Like...as IF!

(stupid movie...stupid writers....<grumble grumble grumble>)

maybe that's why they dropped the song from MFS but kept it on the soundtrack.

Oh man, I could spend a lot of bandwidth, as Im sure most could on MFS and the other Muppet film of 1999 AOEIG. 1999 was one of the greatest film years ever hands down(the matrix, fight club, being john malkovich, american beauty, eyes wide shut, etc) but sadly after about 20 minutes MFS goes so down hill. The opening scenes are so great tho, and to see Pepe in his first breakout role is quite awesome.

But between the rushed together plot, controlled studio sets vs. live outdoors, no original muppet tunes, hulk hogan cameo(major points taken away for that) and just all around lackluster feel(not to mention a lot of cameos were cut) it just...well just watch the first 20 minutes of mfs to really enjoy it, or with the video mst3k ish commentary on.

As for a new muppet film, lets just hope its not what jhc currently has as far as ideas.

........it's Hollywood Hulk Hogan to you. LOL Eeeek! An all time low for Muppetdom. Come on, they could have at least gone for The Rock if they wanted to go down that road.

I'm not a big 1999 fan, but I agree that Muppets From Space was quite disappointing. Not surprising, though, sadly.

I'm Going To Go Back There Someday has nothing to do with being an alien, you're right. It cheapens that whole song even suggesting that.

Anyway.

Froggy-

Yeah, but they redid the song and everything, thus suggesting, and I've noted some folks on this board putting those things together and agreeing with it (space alien thing). I am curious about that soundtrack and what they did to the song, but I hated the movie so much I couldn't justify the 20 bucks for the CD.

Beaker-

Yes, the Hulk Hogan cameo represented scraping the bottom of the barrel in so many ways. And that former soft-core porno star for an Elmo movie (I seriously can't remember her name--the Miss America who gave up her crown when the pix of her were found) is...oh, I just couldn't believe it! WHY NOT CYNDI LAUPER INSTEAD??????????

Froggy-

Yup, the Rock would be way better as a performer, but for a Muppet movie it should be Mick (Mankind) Foley, and his better half--MISTER SOCKO!

By the way, wrestling fans, rent the film "Beyond the Mat." Totally amazing what happened to Jake the Snake Roberts.

Chris-

Thank you for the comment on the song. I like it almost as much as Rainbow Connection. It demonstrated that Gonzo was more than just a loon; he had a melancholy depth, too.

All-

Good Lord, why aren't WE heading up any new Muppet projects?

  :frown:

I never got that soundtrack. LOL. I also didn't buy the Elmo in Grouchland DVD because I really didn't like that film. The only one worse than MFS IMHO. I'm sure I'll buy it someday to complete my collection.....when I'm really really rich.
