Yeah, when I first saw the tape, I think I had to catch my breath, I couldn't believe all these stories were in my hands, hehe. The person who sold the tape also included two SS toys, Big Bird and Elmo in little cars. Hmm...well I'll pretend it's '80s Elmo!

I know we were talking about old kid's shows the other day. I remember Kids Incorporated on the Disney channel. It was about a group of kids who sang in a rock band. It's funny, I've noticed recently that my memories of the show are forever connected to Fraggle Rock, just because they were probably shown on the Disney Channel around the same time.

Like there was an episode of Kids Inc. where a kid finds a Genie and wishes he had a booming powerful voice. He sings Billy Joel's "Leave a Tender Moment Alone." I think I've always unconsciously connected that episode to the Mean Genie episode of Fraggle Rock!

Hmmm, never seen Kids Inc. I've heard about it, though. It sounds pretty cool! And very cool that you connected some of those episodes to Fraggle Rock! Adds to the fun memories of yours with the episodes, I'll bet! Hehe, ya know, I would've thought about the Mean Genie episode during that Kids Inc. episode, too!

Well both Genie episodes actually had great messages, though different.

The Fraggle episode's message is how important it is to stand up for yourself. If you keep quiet, evil will continue to grow. Years ago, that episode was scary! But even so, the message was loud and clear.

In Kids Inc., the kid keeps wishing he was the best at everything and finally makes the dumb "King Midas" wish that everything he touches turns to money. (Why does everyone always fall for that? Better yet, why don't they ever think to say, 'Everything EXCEPT food!"?)

Anyway, from what I remember, here's what happened:

Kenny (the kid): What a minute this isn't going to work, how am I supposed to eat money?!

Genie: I warned you. Money, by itself, means nothing!

Kenny: I'm starting to wish I never found this lamp!

Genie: (sad) Oh, I see. I've had a lot of other people feel that same, same way.

Kenny: Oh, no offence, I like it and all. But, my life was going a lot better before I found it.

Genie: But I gave you everything you wanted! No strings attached!

Kenny: Maybe that was the problem.

Genie: Ah! Well that shows just how mature you have become. You've learned, that unless you work hard for what you have, it isn't worth anything is it?

That is a rully great lesson, a great thing to teach. Very nice that they could send a message like that.

Definitely, back when kids shows weren't afraid to be a little corny. Now it's all cynical humor. Which has it's place, but within reason. (Wow, I've barely ever used that smiley!)

Hey, I remember kids Inc. That was such a great sow. I juse to whach in when ever thoses Dianey channel previews would come on with thoses oporators trying to get you to subscribe to it befoer it became part of basic cable.

Now, their preschool line up is just nowhere near what it used to ne, no less there regular line up of shows. It used to be so much more original and creative. But that is just not the case anymore.

But every sense th 90's, we have been living in nothing but cynical overload.

Wow...It's enough to make you ues a smiley that you barly use.

I remember seeing bits and pieces of Kids Inc. on television back when I was four or five or so (would have been around 1990-1991). I remember the concept of a bunch of older kids hanging around in some shop or club with cool music playing in the background, but that was it.

Those were the last days before Disney became the evil, tween-pop-junk-spewing, soul-devouring empire...wait, you didn't hear that from me.

Yeah the basic idea with Kids Inc. was that they were a singing group that played the latest hits in a club just for kids. Then in between time they'd have their little episodic adventure and learn a valuable lesson in the end. Lol, to be honest, I used to tune out during the songs (I guess the stories were just so compelling!).

I wasn't watching the MMC when Brittany and Justin were on. I was a loyal viewer before then when everyone had big hair and spandex, lol. I've seen clips on youtube, it's so weird to see those faces again!

Honestly, MN, we didn't have to here it from you. They speak for themselves! I guess Money gets the best of everyone, even say a "Disney." At least they used to focous on quality.

I think it was a malt shop or something. And I remember reading that it had a curtain labeled "asbestos," but an outcry from safety advocates made the set designers change it to "fire curtain."

I saw a few bits and pieces of MMC (the new one), but I never really took a full-blown interest in it. I just think it's kind of scary that so many of today's pre-fab excessively hyped "singers" got their start on that show. Of course, on the original you had Annette Funicello...

By that, I mean the former teen idol, as opposed to the curse used by the Flying Zucchini Brothers when they bombed the audition on TMS...just trying to steer the conversation back to the Muppets.
