Heralde, and everyone else too, I'm sorry, but I can't. I've been a member here for just over two years, and before that I lerked for about a year. In all that time, I've never even visited the tributes section of this site! I just can't bring myself to read such sadness connected with the likes of Jim and Richard. Is that wrong?
Heralde, I must confess that the thaught you expressed about puppeteers and their ideas does explain to me a bit of your thaught process, and some of your dislike of the new muppet productions. I personally believe that puppeteers and other creative people do create their ideas to last, otherwise they wouldn't mean much. I believe if the muppet puppets truly were autonimous, and could get up and go on preforming, they most certainly would! Since they can't, it became the job of other muppeteers to take up the torch and carry on as best they could, adding some small ideas of their own along the way. Otherwise, how could Jim have made the world even a little better than it was when he got here?

It's OK, I understand wanting to avoid saddness, you don't have to look.

I also understand what you're saying about taking up the torch. I do admire the people behind the Muppets making the effort to continue all these years. And you're right, they create their ideas to last. But the Muppets are their original classic material, that's who are they and what they stand for. That's what will ultimately last, that's what will stand the test of time. I don't feel the more modern projects will, they don't represent what the Muppets are. Yet the classic material is what's becoming harder and harder to find. That's why I get bothered sometimes.

Perhaps, but do you think future generations will have the same problems? It is extremely important that we preserve the things we know and love for our kids, but our "modern" movies and shows will be their classics, and they'll probably have new ones.
My goodness, how did I get sidetracked? My point was just, and maybe especially because of what you said, that it's important not to let these old and wonderful ideas and notions die in our minds, just because their original creaters are no longer with us.

Yay, they're playing a true RHLC favorite, Disco D!

I get what you're saying. The film kinda says that death means the end. I don't agree with that. I don't think the ideas should die in our minds just because the creators are gone. It's just that lately, preserving these ideas seems to mean pushing aside the original projects to make room for the new ones. It's the idea that the new must be valued over the old. And if we keep thinking that way, we won't have anything left worth preserving. To me preserving the Muppets means preserving the Muppets, not replacing them with something completely different. I won't pretend I'm watching the Muppets when I'm not.

This really is an interesting discussion, FM! It's just that it can get very emotional so I try to not get into it too much. Lol

Yay! I love Disco D!

1990...that must have been one of Richard's last turns as Maestro Flamingo. But he seems to have been healthy enough at that time.

But in that photo taken on the set of Muppetvision 3D around that time, the one with him leaning against the ladder with Scooter's chin resting on his head, he seems to be giving the camera a tired sort of smile.

Yeah, well not to get too morbid, but these things are often hard to predict at the time.

I really liked this song, it's so catchy, Lol. And Bob's so funny. Though attitude-wise, this really is the Maestro at his worst "...take no humility!"??? Lol. I laughed when he told Bob "We certainly cannot get this over with unless you get in here!"

One of the SS humans in a bee suit...obviously a not-so-subtle jab at Saturday Night Live, and Belushi's not around to retaliate. (chuckle)

It looks like Richard had a lot of fun playing Placido Flamingo, much more so than...say...

R: Don't you dare say it...
MN: Whatever you say. *cough*Elmo*cough*
R: All right, just for that, there's going to be a water balloon with your name on it, miss.
MN: Bring it on; it's starting to get really warm around here.

Lol, I hadn't thought of the SNL parallel there!

Yeah I can definitely see where Placido would be more fun to play. More fun than...em...that other puppet you mentioned. Can't remember his name.
