There was another sketch (I saw this one at The Museum), where Clementine had come up with an idea to use music to help Forgetful remember things. I think he couldn't remember that he was a cowboy.

So Clementine and the other cowboys sang something like, "We dress in jeans and colorful bandanas and wear weird hats."

Forgetful: "Advertising executives!"

Clementine: "No, no Forgetful!"

Forgetful: "Well that's how they dress..."

Ha, that sounds rully cute! Love it. Man, if I ever get to New York again, I know just where I'm headin'! And you know, I was just wondering if Forgetful had ever forgotten that he was a cowboy.

Haha, that's cool Skye! Hmmm, hope no one's getting sick of this, I just keep thinking of other sketches.

The Sesame Street DVD Play Along Games and Songs (available in most video and book stores) features a lot of Forgetful. He and Big Bird and Elmo play a bunch of games related to remembering things. Elmo's really good on it, not over exposed like he is now.

Forgetful naturally forgets almost everything he's supposed to remember about the games. I guess the educational idea is that while he's forgetting, the kids can feel good that they remembered. At one point Big Bird, in desperation, asks, "What's my name??" Forgetful says, "Uh...Big Beak!"

Another thing the special teaches is to keep trying and not get discouraged.

Elmo: Oh, don't worry Forgetful, you'll remember next time!

Forgetful: Well, I'll try!"

Elmo: Elmo like Forgetful's attitude!

::They hug (aww)::

Forgetful may be absent minded, but at least he doesn't bang his head on stuff like some people I could mention! lol

Well, I know that I'm not getting sick of this (as if you couldn't tell )! I love hearing about all these sketches!

That's interesting. I haven't heard a whole lot about the Sesame Street DVD's before. I might think about getting that one now... thanks for mentioning that there's a lot of Forgetful on it! You're right that he might be so forgetful so that kids can feel good for remembering things. I have to say that when I watch the different Sesame Street clips that I have seen, I like trying to figure out what the lesson is supposed to be, or what message they're trying to send to kids in a particular sketch. Sometimes it's a lot more obvious than other times. Ha, Big Beak! I like that.

Yeah, the best Sesame Street DVDs Richard-wise are Play Along Games and Songs and Sing, Hoot, and Howl (Gladys).

In the latter, a Sesame Street club for animals has a meeting while they sing their favorite animal songs. There's some great classic SS clips like "Working Dog" and "We are all Earthlings."

Gladys wants to sing her favorite song about her favorite animal (a cow of course!) She ends up singing "Proud to Be a Cow." That's a really good song, it's about being proud of who you are and not trying to change yourself. My favorite line is, "I'm proud to have an utter like my Father...no! My Mother."

Thanks for the info, heralde! That's awesome, and those are definitely things I'll try to check out some time.

Oh yeah, I have heard "Proud to Be a Cow" before, and I love it! That is a great line that you mentioned. I'm a big fan of the lines, "I'm glad that I say 'Moo' and not 'Meow'!" and "I think that every cow should take a bow!" Richard did such a great job with this song (as always).

Yeah, those are great lines, Skye!

Wow, according to MuppetWiki, July 15th was Forgetful Jones' birthday! Oh dear we...forgot! Well, we'll remember next year...I hope!

Lol, me too, ilikemuppets! It's one of those songs that I instantly remembered, even though I hadn't thought of it in years. I love dogs, so it was a favorite. Gotta love those workin' dogs!

I'm the same way about that song. It's funny how you can remember things instently ever when you havn't herd them in a long time. I've always found that segment to amuse me.
