I mean, yes, there are usually certain corporate agendas that have to be taken into consideration, but even if you're lucky, you can somehow get in with the right people at the right network . . . despite ALVINNN!!! AND THE CHIPMUNKS airing on Nickelodeon, Bagdasarian Productions has complete creative control of the show, and has currently been renewed for Seasons 6 and 7 - it now even has more episodes than the 80s cartoon that ran for eight seasons.
But even so, that sort of deal is harder and harder to come by in this day and age . . . well, it kind of has been for a while now. Even Andy Griffith talked about the difference between production of THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW in the 60s to the production of MATLOCK in the 80s: during the TAGS era, he described as the networks essentially being your hosts, and maybe checking in periodically to see how things are going, while pretty much leaving you to your own devices; during the MATLOCK era, you had "kids in suits" basically telling you what to do and how to do it.
