Lewis and Clark, Daniel Boone, the Continental Army, they never went glamping.
That was one of the cool things about Boy Scouts. By the time you're ten, you get to experience taking a backpack with everything you need for an overnight stay, hiking a mile to your campsite, pitching your tent (or if the weather is nice enough, sleeping under the stars, which was awesome in the summertime).
We didn't have to hunt or fish for dinner, but we did have to cook what we brought with us. Some did go fishing for the sport of it.
But the whole point of these weekend camp outs was to build self-reliance. And it was fun. Being out in nature, having some of that pioneer spirit, I wouldn't trade those times for anything.
