Does anyone remember the lyrics when Little Jerry and the Monotones sang "Sad"? I remember seeing the skit, but it was only recently that I realized that this one had become virtually lost. I seem to remember Little Jerry looking a bit different in this one too; he seemed to have a larger nose. I wonder why this one has become so rare while "Mad" and "Proud" are fairly common.

Here's what I've come up with...

Little Jerry and the Monotones
(Background Singers)
Boo-Hoo, Woa-oah-oo
Boo-Hoo, Woa-oah-oo

I'm Sad... Oh boy am I feeling bad.
I wipe the tears from my eye.
Want to sit down and cry.

Woah I'm so blue... I just don't know what to do.
I'm such an unhappy guy.
Bet you're wondering why.

(Wondering why)

My new best friend left town
I climbed a tree but I fell down.
Maybe that's why I don't feel so grand.
I lost a shiny dime,
Went to school, had a lousy time,
Now I hope that you can understand

Why I'm so sad yeah, yeah, yeah
Oh boy am I'm feeling bad yeah, yeah, yeah
I wipe the tears from my eye
Want to sit down and cry.

(Sit down and cry)

Alot of things happen...
it's ok to be Sad

(Spoken by a Monotone)
Oh Little Jerry... You're so so sad.
There are tears on your pillow, and in your heart.
There must ba a cloud in your head,
beacue rain keeps falling from your eyes.
But it's your song Little Jerry,
and you can cry if you want to
Oh Little Jerry, just looking at you makes me
feel so sad. I just wanna cry.

"Sad" was only released on a 45 single, not on an LP album. That is why it is more rare than the others. It was on the "Mad / Sad" 45.

You can hear "Sad" on Muppet Central Radio.

Oh, so that's what that line was.
I understood the rest in that part of the song.

I know I must have seen it at least once or twice between '89-'92. I remember the way it made me feel: compassionate. :concern:

I personally loved Jerry & The Monotones. My two favourite musical numbers from them are Sad and Telephone Rock. They were a really groovy bunch of muppet musicians.I always enjoyed their performances. :sing: :flirt:

If you think "Sad" is obscure, there's this other obscure one called "Surprise!" I have a vague memory of it, but it appears on an album by the same name and the lyrics were in the old songbook.

There are 2 things I remember about Mad and Sad...

In Mad they have smaller than normal noses, in Sad, they have larger than normal noses...

just an odd observation...

Another thing about "Mad"... for those who've seen it on the Jerusalem episode of "Shalom Sesame"... I have a pretty good feeling that Little Jerry was being operated by Frank Oz, although it was obviously Jerry's voice when originally done.
