My 2 cents:
Why are there kids drinking underage? Why are there kids, at the age of 15, smoking marijuana? Why do parents let their kids run out in the streets, dress like "gangstas" and go cause trouble, act up, harrass others? Because in this modern day society, it's "acceptable". It's acceptable socially to do these things but legally, none of it is, and for the most part I think social fashions and philosophies overshadow the laws and the legal behaviors one is supposed to adhere to, thus they don't get in trouble. I mean, at my campus, on one side of the road everyone is smoking and drinking and on the other side, a cop waits for one of those kids to walk over so he can fine them. It's just all so stupid and ludricrous. The media is making all this crap socially acceptable so therefore it affects everybody. A personal anecdote: My friend told me he was walking with his friends down a road when suddenly a policeman came up and said they were caught with illegal posession of marijuana, according to some photo someone took and turned in. Now, of course, they never ever would even think of doing drugs so they eventually set the policeman straight but still it is an example of what I am trying to point out here: Media affects society which affects everyone, even people who aren't brainwashed by the rappers and the trampy singers as I pointed out in the anecdote.
